THE GOOD-THE BAD THE UGLY-DAD PROVERBS 22:6
I would like to wish every dad, Happy Father’s day. Just like Mothers day. Honoring our Mother’s and Dad’s should be a daily thing not once in a year thing.
And if some people in our government have their way with their cancel culture views. There will be no names for our holiday.
God has given us The Word Of God. And in God’s Word are the answers to all of our questions
How We Got Here The Only Way To Go To Heaven How To be happy How to Have a Happy Marriage How to Raise Our Children How to get through the struggles of life.
And for the topic and day at hand, God’s Word tells us and shows us Dad’s how to be a Good Dad.
II CORINTHIANS 10:11
Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
This morning with the Power and Presence of the Holy Spirit I would like to look at three dads and preach on this topic. THE GOOD – THE BAD – THE UGLY DADS.
PSALM 127:3-5
PRAYER
Before we get started I just want to remind you there are no perfect sinless dads.
In our text we find out that if the Lord has allowed us to have children they are His and we are to raise our children for the Lord.
VS 5 – If we use God’s Manual – God’s Word our children will not be ashamed of us and they will protect us when we need protection.
So let us look at THE GOOD – THE BAD – AND THE UGLY examples of Dad’s in God’s Word.
*I. THE GOOD
The good Dad represents a Man who is saved and living for the Lord and taking care of the needs of his wife and family.
The Example we find is NOAH.
TURN TO GENESIS 6:5
Sounds like our world today!! But there was one man – one dad that stood out.
VS 8
*A. WHAT MADE NOAH A GOOD DAD
*1. He Put His Faith And Trust In The Lord Jesus Christ
2. He Obeyed God’s Word
a. VS 14-16 Build A Ark b. VS 22 – Noah Builds
3. He Heeds God’s Warning
HEBREWS 11:7
By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
4. He Proclaim The Word Of God
II PETER 2:5
And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
B. THE RESULTS:
1. Noah And His Wife Were Saved
2. Noah’s 3 Sons And Their Wives Were saved
Nothing super special about Noah. He was a saved man who wanted and did obey the Lord – And he proclaimed the Word Of God.
NOAH IS THE GOOD DAD.
II. THE BAD
The bad – describes a dad who is saved but he is not living for the Lord.
II PETER 2:7
And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:
The word just- Justified – You are only Justified when one Repents of being a sinner and asks Jesus to come into your heart and save you.
THE BAD DAD – IS LOT
*A. THE FALL OF LOT
GENESIS 13
Lot is Abraham’s nephew. And as the Lord is blessing Abraham, Lot and his family were being blessed.
And it got to the point that Abraham’s servants and Lot’s servants were not getting along.
VS 7-11
*1. Lot Forgot God
He made a decision without praying and asking God which way he should go.
2. VS 13 Sets His Eyes On The Things Of The World.
Lot and his family got a steady does of the sights and the sounds of Sodom.
I CORINTHIANS 15:33
Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
GENESIS 14
We read of a war against Sodom and Gomorrah and they took the people that lived in those cities captive.
VS 12 – Where do we find Lot? He was living in Sodom
3. Compromising With The World.
LUKE 21:34
And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
MATTHEW 6:24
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
4. GENESIS 19 Friends With The World
Now we see Lot hold a pretty high position in the city. He would greet all those that came into town.
JAMES 4:4
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
B. RESULTS
1. VS 4-8 DOUBLE STANDARDS
2. VS 12-14 – LOST HIS TESTIMONY
3. VS 23 – LOST HIS WIFE
4. VS 29-36 – HE LOST HIS CHILDREN
VS 36
Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father!!!
I know what you are saying I will never go down that road. Let me ask you Dad have you made some decision without asking God?
Do you think if Lot knew what his decision without would cost, do you think he would have asked the Lord?
THE GOOD – WE LOOKED A NOAH – SAVED DAD – WALING WITH GOD OBEYING GOD
THE BAD – WE LOOKED AT LOT – SAVED DAD BUT GOT ENTANGLED WITH THE AFAIRS OF THIS WORLD – LOST EVERYTHING!!!
III. THE UGLY
LUKE 16:19-23
Here we read about a rich man who had anything and everything he wanted.
THE UGLY IS A UNSAVED DAD
*A. HE REJECTED JESUS CHRIST
You might be asking, how do you know that the rich man rejected Jesus?
VS 27-28
Why did this rich man want Lazarus to go back to his home and tell about hell?
Because he had heard from Lazarus the only way to escape hell and that is Jesus Christ!!!
All of his goals and dreams were to get more and more things. Live the dream but something happen.
VS 22-23 THE RICH MAN ALSO DIED AND WAS BURIED AND IN HELL HE LIFTED UP HIS EYES, BEING IN TORMENTS.
THE RICH MAN DIED
HEBREW 9:27
MARK 8:36
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
B. THE RESULTS
The rich man – Dad
*1. Is Burning Right Now
2. Is Thirsting
3. Remembering
4. Begging You Not To Come There
Listen if you are here and you are a Dad – Mom – Son – Daughter and you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Savior I beg you to come today and let us show you through God’s Word how you can know for sure you are going to heaven.
DAD WE ARE ALL ONE OF THESE THREE.
THE GOOD – SAVED – WALKING WITH AND OBEYING THE LORD
BAD – SAVED – BUT LIVING FOR SELF AND THE WORLD – THERE IS A LOT TO LOSE!!!!
UGLY – UNSAVED
The only sin that will send you to a devils hell is you rejecting Jesus Christ
We are in need of Godly Dad’s today.
My pray for us as dads this morning is that we can stand up this morning and say as Joshua said.
JOSHUA 24:15
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
