Perfection In an Imperfect World
Very few things in this life are perfect, if any.
There are no perfect people. We all have faults and failures.
There is no perfect church. Churches are made up of imperfect people.
There is no perfect product. That’s why we buy more clothes, more shoes, more cars because the ones we have wear out.
There is no perfect husband. That’s a good spot for an amen ladies.
There is no perfect wife.
There is no perfect child. Sorry mamas to burst your bubble.
However, there are 4 things I can think of that are perfect:
1.We have a perfect Scripture.
Psa 19:7 "The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: [stop here]
Underscore the word “law.” The law of the Lord. Law is the word for Torah, it means divine instructions. The Bible is God’s book of divine instructions.
Underscore the word “perfect.” The law of the LORD is perfect. The word “perfect” means whole and complete.
The Bible is perfect because it is the law of the Lord. It is perfect because it came from the one who is perfect.
The fact that the Bible is perfect means nothing needs to be added to it.
In fact, we are warned in the Bible not to add anything to it or take away anything from it.
Deu 4:2 God says, "You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you."
Deu 12:32 God says "What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add to it, nor take from it."
Pro 30:6 Solomon tells us "Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar."
Rev 22:18 "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."
The Scriptures are complete, whole, perfect. Nothing needs to be added or taken away to make it perfect.
Because the scripture is perfect it will never lead us astray, never deceive us, never lie to us, never mislead us. It will always tell us the truth, never lead us down the wrong path, it will always lead us down the right path, it will always lead us in the right direction.
You don’t need it and psychology, it plus philosophy. The Word of God and the Word of God alone is all you need to know how to live for God and to do his will for your life.
2.We have a perfect Savior.
Our savior, Jesus Christ, is the perfect, impeccable, blameless, flawless, sinless Son of God.
Jhn 1:29 He is the spotless, blameless Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
2Co 5:21 - He is the only one who knew no sin; impeccable, flawless.
Heb 4:15 He was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Flawless, perfect, impeccable.
He is holy. He is the holy Son of God. He is the holy, holy, holy Lord God Almighty.
“Who is like you LORD glorious in holiness, awesome in splendor, performing great wonders?” Who is like God, glorious in holiness? Exodus 15:11
We find the answer in 1 Samuel 2:2 “There are none holy like the LORD. There are none beside you...” None! No one!
Holy means perfect, different, separate, distinct, flawless, impeccable, set apart, like no one else.
Because we have a perfect, He never errs. He never makes a mistake. He will never disappoint, never let you down, he will always be by our side, He will always love you. He’s always on time; never early, never late. He will never forsake you. He never disappoints.
He is perfect. The perfect Savior. The perfect Son of God.
3.We have a perfect Sacrifice.
Heb 10:14 “For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.”
We have a perfect sacrifice for sin because the perfect savior was the sacrifice for our sins.
In the OT the priests would make sacrifices for the sins of the people. Every sabbath each family would bring a sacrifice to the temple for the priest to sacrifice it for their sins.
They would do this week after week, year after year, decade after decade, for hundreds and thousands of years. However, none of those sacrifices took away sin.
Heb 10:1 "For the sacrifices were a shadow of the good things to come in Christ, they never with those sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who offered them perfect."
Heb 10:4 "For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins."
None of those OT sacrifices ever took away one single, solitary sin.
They were all a shadow of the one who would come. That pure, perfect, spotless Lamb of God, who by his one perfect sacrifice take away the sins of the people.
Because we have a perfect sacrifice, nothing needs to be added to make it more perfect, no more sacrifices need to be made, no more offerings for sin need to be made, it was a once and for all sufficient sacrifice for every sin you’ve ever committed.
4.We have a perfect Salvation.
We are perfectly, completely saved.
Rom 8:29 “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified."
We are so saved, our salvation is so complete that God already sees us glorified in heaven with him.
God already sees us seated in heaven with him. Eph 2:5 "Even when we were dead in sins, [he] hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:"
We have a perfect standing before God. Nothing needs to be added to our salvation to make it more complete.
From the cross Jesus triumphantly shouted, “It is finished.” It is complete. It is whole. He accomplished the purpose his father sent him to do.
We are now redeemed, reconciled to God, made new, the old is gone, the new has come. We are born again, born from above, born of the Spirit.
Our sins are forgiven, our past is forgotten, our sin have been cast from us as far as the east is from the west, an infinite distance.
Our sins have been cast to the bottom of the ocean, never to be drug up again and used against us.
If God be for us who can be against us. It is God who justifies us who can condemn us. There is now no condemnation to those who are in Christ.
He was judge for us. He took our condemnation and judgement. He took our sins. He bore our sins. He bore the guilt of our sins so we don’t have to.
He who knew no sin became sin for us. The Lord laid on him all our sins. The Lord shall see the travail of his soul and be satisfied.
Because it is a perfect salvation, we have a perfect standing before God, nothing else needs to be done to make our standing before God more perfect, nothing needs to be added to make it more perfect, we are perfectly delivered from sin, Satan, death, hell and the grave.
We have a perfect scripture, perfect savior, perfect sacrifice, a perfect salvation.
Nothing needs to be added.
We can, however, add to our understanding of it.
I pray I’ve helped you do that today.
Let’s pray.
