EASTER 2021

EXPECTED RESURRECTION

Pastor Timothy Porter

TEXT: Mark 16:1-8

INTRODUCTION:

I just stopped by to declare unto you that I just checked my watch. It's not night anymore. Church, it's morning. Wipe the tears out of your eyes, and praise our God, because he rose up early, early, early Sunday morning. Resurrection is yours!

"HE IS RISEN" - "HE IS RISEN INDEED."

I got to thinking this week about jesus when He went alone to pray in dark Gethsemane.

Nothing moves my heart more than thinking about the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus was in such agony, that He literally sweat drops of blood.

Where He cried out to God the Father, and said, "Oh Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me." And all of the sin of all of the world was distilled in that cup.

Jesus knew that the wrath of God that comes with that sin was in that cup.

Father, if it possible, let this cup pass from me. But the silence from heaven said there is no other way.

Jesus said, "Nevertheless, not my will but thine be done", and He drank that bitter cup, the dregs of it. Jesus drank it all.

My sin and your sin, and our sin was in that cup. And Jesus suffered there alone.

The disciples were asleep. The city was asleep. But Jesus eyes would not close, until they closed in death.

I began think of the cruel mockery of death, where they hauled Him away to be tried, and the vile injustice that was done to Him.

Never was there a greater miscarriage of Justice than that mock trial that they gave to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Finally Pilot said, Whether of the two will ye that I release unto you. Jesus or Barabbas? They said release unto us Barabbas.

He said what then shall I do with Jesus, which is called the Christ? And they said "Crucify Him." And Jesus lost an election to a common criminal.

That criminal was a picture of you and I - Barababas and all his evil was released - for Jesus!

"We are Barababas"

1.) THE SUFFERING OF FRIDAY

They stripped the Lord Jesus Christ naked. And some psychopathic, barrel-chested Roman soldier who was probably a volunteer for the job took a long whip called a cat-of-nine-tails. And began to lacerate the body of Jesus with it. Ribbons of flesh would hang down.

The whip would have little bits of bone and lead and glass in the very end. It would wrap around the body of the victim and tear away the flesh, and sometimes disavow the victim. Many times a person who had received a scourging like this was not able to walk.

The Romans were skilled at this. They knew how to punish a man within an inch of death. And still leave Him bleeding.

Then they put a purple robe upon the Lord Jesus Christ. They put a wilted reed in His hand. They pressed a crown of thorns down upon His tender brow.

They spit in His face. And they kneeled before Him and they mock worshipped Him saying, "Hail King of the Jews." And then they would take Him and pass Him from one to another while He was blind folded and smite Him in the face.

The blood trickles down His cheeks and from His nose and drips off His beard. And then someone reaches up and takes a handful of His beard and rips it from His cheek. The Bible says that they plucked the beard from the Lord Jesus Christ. They shoved Him from one to another and said, "If you are a prophet, prophesy. Tell us who it is who is striking you in the face this time."

Then they'd take the Lord Jesus and the lay on His back a rough hewed timber, the splinters are embedded into those wounds. The Lord Jesus starts up that hill called Calvary.

He makes His way down the Via Dolorosa, the way of sorrows, going to Calvary. He is so weak from loss of blood, from the bruised battering that He has received, He stumbles. A whip cracks. He picks up the cross and tries again.

Finally He stumbles again under the load of that cross. Someone else is forced to carry it.

As He comes to top of Galgotha, Calvary, and there they stretched the Lord Jesus out and a hammer drives those rough nails into those quivering palms, into those feet that never walked in sin. And ever nerve in His body becomes a pathway for the feet of pain to travel upon.

No one has known suffering like the Lord Jesus suffered.

But my dear friend, the veil of the temple was rent in twain. The earth began to split. The rocks began to split. The sun hid its face and it was utter midnight when the Lord Jesus was on the cross. And Jesus cried out, My God, My God why hast thou forsaken me?

The disciples had fled. And now God the Father turns His back upon God the Son.

When David walked through the valley of the shadow of death, he could say, "Yea I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil."

But when Jesus walked that lonesome valley, He walked it all alone. Suspended between heaven and earth, crucified by men and forsaken by the Father because He was bearing the sin of the world. And not only did the Lord Jesus Christ suffer physically at the hands of men, but on that cross, Jesus Christ took the thunder bolts of the wrath of God

Because as the sins of the world were distilled upon Jesus, the eternities were compressed upon Jesus, and Jesus baptized His soul in hell for us all. Jesus walked the burning corridors of the damned.

. In your Friday, God gives the gift of comfort so that later, you can give others the gift of empathy

Jesus is a taker before He’s a giver. Before He gives His grace, He takes my shame. Before He gives His light, He takes my darkness.

Just because you’re in a Friday situation doesn’t mean that God isn’t there. The proof of God’s presence is that He’s never left you through it all

You see Friday is when all hell breaks loose like Martha and Mary you send word to Jesus "The one you love is sick" "sickness is not unto deat but for the glory of God"

Mary and Martha we upset Jesus was 4 days late - - - He says Hey! I am the resurrection! take me to him.

In Christ Jesus your Friday will always end in resurrection !

2.) THE SILENCE OF SATURDAY

1 Peter 3:18 (ETRV)

18 Christ himself suffered when he died for you, and with that one death he paid for your sins. He was not guilty, but he died for people who are guilty. He did this to bring all of you to God. In his physical form he was killed, but he was made alive by the Spirit.?

That was friday

1 Peter 3:19-20 (ETRV)

19 And by the Spirit he went and preached to the spirits in prison. 20 Those were the spirits who refused to obey God long ago in the time of Noah. God was waiting patiently for people while Noah was building the big boat. And only a few—eight in all—were saved in the boat through the floodwater.

You see while Saturday seemed silent, Here Heaven was busy !

On friday whe Jesus said it is finished on the Cross His soul went to be with His father to be refreshed

Between Christ’s death and Resurrection, His living spirit went to the demon spirits bound in the abyss and proclaimed that, in spite of His death, He had triumphed over them (Col. 2:14, 15).

spirits in prison. This refers to fallen angels (demons), who were permanently bound because of heinous wickedness. The demons who are not so bound resist such a sentence ( Luke 8:31). In the end, they will all be sent to the eternal lake of fire

disobedient... in the days of Noah. Peter further explains that the abyss is inhabited by bound demons who have been there since the time of Noah, and who were sent there because they overstepped the bounds of God’s tolerance with their wickedness. The demons of Noah’s day were running riot through the earth, filling the world with their wicked, vile, anti-God activity, including sexual sin, so that even 120 years of Noah’s preaching, while the ark was being built, could not convince any of the human race beyond the eight people in Noah’s family to believe in God (see notes on 2 Pet. 2:4, 5; Jude 6, 7; cf. Gen. 6:1-8). Thus, God bound these demons permanently in the abyss until their final sentencing. saved through water. They had been rescued in spite of the water, not because of the water. Here, water was the agent of God’s judgment, not the means of salvation (see note on Acts 2:38).

While the world was in Cahos and fear The disciples were confused. Heaven was busy and It wasn't silent .... Heaven was busy preparing !!

So, often we think God is silenrt in our lives! He is not He is just Busy preparing something great for you!!@!@

I like that they were preparing!!

Heaven knew that when Jesus arose that from then until God sends Him back for us it would be very busy!

Busy never stopping Never stopping trying to reach you - me - us!

Silence does not indicate adsence!

God is never silent!!!!! He is never still !!! He always is working on your behalf even in this very moment !!

SATURDAY WAS FAR FROM SILENT

3.) THE SHATTERING OF SUNDAY

John 20:11-18 (ETRV)

11 But Mary stood outside the tomb,? crying. While she was crying, she bent down and looked inside the tomb. 12 She saw two angels dressed in white sitting where Jesus' body had been. One was sitting where the head had been; the other was sitting where the feet had been. 13 The angels asked Mary, "Woman, why are you crying?" Mary answered, "They took away the body of my Lord, and I don't know where they put him." 14 When Mary said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there. But she did not know that it was Jesus. 15 He asked her, "Woman, why are you crying? Who are you looking for?" She thought he was the man in charge of the garden. So she said to him, "Did you take him away, sir? Tell me where you put him. I will go and get him." 16 Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned toward him and said in Aramaic,? "Rabboni,"* which means "Teacher." 17 Jesus said to her, "You don't need to hold on to me! I have not yet gone back up to the Father. But go to my followers and tell them this: 'I am going back to my Father and your Father. I am going back to my God and your God.'" 18 Mary Magdalene went to the followers and told them, "I saw the Lord!" And she told them what he had said to her.
