Summary: At Calvary, Jesus suffered emotionally, and psychologically. He came to heal our broken hearts.

"45 Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Matthew 27:45-46.

Have had your heart broken in the past? Many times sorrow, betrayal and loss are like deep wounds. Losing a loved one can be emotionally devastating. In this world, we'll have trouble. We'll have heartbreak. Sometimes our heart is so broken that we can’t even express it in words and nothing seems to take the pain away. But there's a Saviour who cares about your soul. He's interested in your total healing. No matter how you feel right now, it is possible to live again. There is a Healer who will mend your broken heart. There is hope for those who are emotionally troubled. God cares for each one of us and knows the unique ways our hearts have been wounded by a painful experience. Just as a doctor treats each patient differently according to their needs, God will help you heal from your heartbreak in exactly the way you need. Jesus Christ was wounded and understands all that you go through. He reached out to us by dying on a cross so that we would be healed. Whether you’ve been let down by disappointment, rejection, or resentment, Jesus came to heal your broken heart.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord” Luke ?4:18–19?.

The Greek word used here for "broken" means, to “crush together” or “break in pieces” Jesus’ heart was broken, too. He was betrayed, slandered, beaten, mocked, forsaken, and rejected, because of you and me. The same crowds who had lined the streets of Jerusalem with palm branches turned on him. Jesus was wounded emotionally. Even His friends deserted Him. Imagine the pain Jesus must have felt. He was also rejected briefly by His Father. His heart was broken. Imagine the intense pain of loneliness in the core of his soul. Yet He was not deterred in His march to Golgotha. Jesus’ love for us is the greatest love story of all time. He endured the 'walk of shame' from Jerusalem to Calvary. His shoulders hurt from the beatings and the cross He had to carry. Yet He kept going because of the love He has for us. He was nailed to a cross. As thick darkness covers the earth and wails from the women shattered the night silence, He endured all. They removed the last piece of His garment. But He was not ashamed. As long as you are saved, redeemed and healed.

“From the city men groan, and the souls of the wounded cry out” Job 24:12.

Behind and beneath the happy faces we come across in our cities daily, are invisible aches and groaning. This groan comes from men, women, and children, whose hearts have been wounded. These wounds are hidden from others. Yet painful to the one who is hurting! A broken heart can break you. Some wounds cut deeper than others. Experiences like rejection, abuse, trauma and other adversities in life could cause a broken heart. Everyone has felt the agony of a wounded heart. Sometimes love hurts! Sadly many wounded people pretend to be okay, because of the judgemental attitude of others. They're going through things inside yet are afraid to trust. You see, most wounded people are hurt by those they love. So trust is a major issue. Still, they're crying out for healing! With no help in sight, wounded people feel as if life is not worth living for. These so-called “calm” people are living on the edge of a nervous breakdown. Many are on the brink of suicide. Some already passed on. Are you hurting today? Do you feel as though no one cares about what you have been through?

"Reproach has broken my heart, and I am full of heaviness; I looked for someone to take pity, but there was none; And for comforters, but I found none." Psalm 69:20.

God cares about how you feel. Yes, the Lord of the universe cares about you! God sees the pain you’re experiencing; He cares about the condition of your heart. Jesus was sent to heal broken hearts. Every broken piece of your heart is an opportunity for His healing touch. He came to heal the brokenhearted. In Him, there is no condemnation. He sees inside each one of us. The Lord knows the state of our hearts; He understands why it is the way it is, and He desires to heal you. The God of all creation longs to heal your broken heart. He seeks to repair the damages to your heart. With Him, your situation is not hopeless. Your broken heart can be restored. The wounds in your soul can be healed. Whether you’ve been let down by disappointments, rejections, or abuses, Jesus came to heal your body, soul and spirit. He will not abandon you regardless of how badly your heart has been wounded and torn apart. You will recover soon! You will be whole again. Jesus is the Healer of wounded and broken hearts. He is the Saviour of those who are crushed in the spirit.

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." Psalm 147:3.

The Balm of Gilead still heals! Unlike physical injuries, emotional wounds will not close on their own. It takes time. But God will walk with you through it all. You're not alone! He's there to hold your hand and heal you: body, soul and spirit.

1. Recognize you are hurting. You cannot ignore your pain and think it will go away. Acknowledge it.

2. Surrender to God. Your total surrender frees you to experience His transforming power. Turn to God to begin your healing process. Seek Him as your healer! Tell the Lord how much you were wounded and need His healing touch.

3. Don’t give in to anger.

4. Forgive. Emotional healing always involves forgiveness. Forgive and ask God to forgive you for any way you have hurt others. Forgive those who hurt you. Luke 23:34. Receive God's forgiveness. Forgive yourself.

5. Meditate on the Word. When your heart is hurting, you can always find peace and healing from the Bible. Saturate your mind with Scriptures about comfort, help, love, strength, hope and peace. Read the Bible daily.

6. Develop a relationship with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a Person. He will teach you the truth about your life.

7. Reach out to others. As the Lord has reached out to you, so you should be an instrument in the Hands of God to reach out and help others who are hurting. Ecclesiastes 4:1. Ask God to use you to encourage others.

8. Praise God always. Psalm 147:1-6. Remember His greatness and humble yourself before Him.

9. Pour out your heart to God. Psalm 38:9-11. Pray always. Tell Him to heal the wounds in your heart.

10. Don't be afraid.

11. Trust that the Lord hears you. Psalm 10:17-18. Do not despair. Trust that He will make you experience His healing power. God can fix the broken pieces of your life and make them new again. Believe Him to heal your broken heart.

12. The best is yet ahead. Don’t get stuck in the past. God will give you the strength to move on and move forward.

NO MORE PAIN:

"He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4.

When God returns to this earth, we will no longer feel sad because God will fill our hearts and make us complete. There will be no more tears, no more heartbreaks, no more pain, and no more sorrow, for all our hearts will be filled with God’s Spirit. There is crying now all over the world. Many are shedding secret tears now all over the world. But there is a place where there will be no more pain, tears and suffering. That beautiful place where Christ has prepared for us. What an amazing place! There will be no sadness, crying, or pain. When Christ returns, those who trust in Him will be with Him and enjoy Him forever. So I ask you this question, are you saved? Is your name in the Lamb's Book of Life? Are you certain you will spend eternity with the Lord? Think about it! But you don't have forever to think about it. You can't postpone that decision. Your choice today determines where you spend your eternity. Do not delay. Kindly say this prayer: O LORD, I come to You. I know I am a sinner, forgive me. Jesus, from today, I accept You as the LORD of my life. Change my heart from a disobedient heart to a heart that will obey You. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, write my name in the Book of Life, and make me brand new in Jesus' name. Amen! Congrats. Stand firm. Keep the faith till the end.

“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit,” Psalms 34:18

THERE'S NOT A FRIEND LIKE THE LOWLY JESUS Lyrics by Johnson Oatman (1895)

1 There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus–

No, not one! no, not one!

None else could heal all our soul's diseases–

No, not one! no, not one!

Refrain:

Jesus knows all about our struggles,

He will guide till the day is done;

There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus–

No, not one! no, not one!

2 No friend like Him is so high and holy–

No, not one! no, not one!

And yet no friend is so meek and lowly–

No, not one! no, not one! [Refrain]

3 There's not an hour that He is not near us –

No, not one! no, not one!

No night so dark but His love can cheer us–

No, not one! no, not one! [Refrain]

4 Was e'er a gift like the Savior given?

No, not one! no, not one!

Will He refuse us a home in heaven?

No, not one! no, not one! [Refrain]
