Love of the Father for the Son for YOU
John 3:35 (KJV) The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
The gospel of John, in a special sense, emphasizes the love in the divine Trinity of the heavenly Father for the Son.
The words “love” and “Father” and “Son” occur more in the book of John than in any other book of the Bible
In our text, the Holy Spirit is revealing that the Father has entrusted the care of the whole creation to the Son whom He loves.
1. He has also shown Him everything in creation:
John 5:20 (KJV) For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth:...
It's in creation not evolution.
Evolution takes away from what God has done for us.
That's why the devil has crept into every part of our society with the awful teaching of evolution,
even the church is guilty of preaching some combination of evolution and creation mix.
Every bit of that takes away from God the father, and God the Son for their part of creation
2. The Father also loved the Son because of His willingness to die for lost sinners.
John 10:17 (KJV) Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
Aren’t you glad of that?
What joy is it to know that the Father is pleased that His Son, Jesus, has made a way for YOU to get saved!
3. God’s love had existed in eternity
In the upper room, as Christ prayed to His Father, this divine love had existed in eternity.
This is the root and the measure of all forms of true love ever since!
John 17:24 (KJV) Father, … for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
Parental love,
marital love,
family love,
love of country
—all types of genuine love
—are derived ultimately from this eternal love of the Father for the Son.
In other words, all love exist because of this Father and Son relationship
If you ever felt love for anyone or anything,
That love is rooted in the Father/ Son relationship
If you ever said I love you
If you ever expressed your love
if you ever felt love by others
if you ever basked in the warmth of knowing that you are loved
all of this has its root in the Father and the Son relationship
4. Amazingly, this love that can also be in us, if we will have it.
John 15:9-10 (KJV) As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. 10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
John 17 has been called the “The High Priestly Prayer”
It was here He prayed (and still prays) for us:
The prayer starts out in verse one:
John 17:1 (KJV) These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
Jesus is our great intercessor:
Romans 8:34 (KJV) … It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Hebrews 7:25 (KJV) Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
Look what our great intercessor is saying about you:
John 17:23 (KJV) I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
John 17:26 (KJV) And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
This is not a love the World understands
No carnal minded person gets this
God’s love just “pours out” on you every day, whether you are aware of it or not!
Therefore, Pleasing God should be our focus today
2 Corinthians 5:9 (KJV) Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
Paul’s great ambition was to please the Lord and be accepted of Him.
The Greek for “accepted” is often translated “well-pleasing,”
and this is the real meaning of the word.
Is this your desire? To please the Lord?
If it is, then let’s look at scripture on how to do that:
1.) Give to other’s
Hebrews 13:16 (KJV) But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
So, we should not neglect to do good and to share with others
Philippians 4:18 (KJV) But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.
After receiving gifts from the Philippians,
Paul said that he has all that he needs and more,
He then describes that gift as;
• a sweet-smelling aroma,
• an acceptable sacrifice,
• well-pleasing to God.
If you want to please God, then give to others!
Give to the Work of God!
2.) There is a special warning to children:
Colossians 3:20 (KJV) Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
It is well pleasing to God that you obey your parents, “in all things”
In Exodus 20:12, God say’s to: Honor your father and mother, so that your days may be long.
Out of the 10 commandments, this is the only commandment with a blessing attached to it
3.) Don’t get “tangled up” in this World
2 Timothy 2:3-4 (KJV) Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please [same Gk. root word] him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
The same word appears in Romans 12:1-2, translated twice as “acceptable.”
Romans 12:1-2 (KJV) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Paul urges us to:
• present our bodies as living sacrifices, “holy, acceptable unto God,”
• being “not conformed to this world,”
• but transformed by a renewed mind,
• thereby to prove “that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
The common thread in these and other such passages is that, in order to be pleasing to the Lord, we must be good stewards of all our possessions and all our days, serving Him totally.
Romans 14:18 (KJV) For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable [i.e., ‘well-pleasing’]....
This is our reasonable service,
and your service will be abundantly repaid when we hear Him say in that day:
Matthew 25:21 (KJV) …Well done, thou good and faithful servant:
Ephesians 1:17-18 (KJV) That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
