I believe that God calls pastors and not CEOs. Had the Church kept things simple we would not have the issues to address.
Act 6:3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
Act 6:4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
There was only one duty for the deacons; caring for widows. Verse four tells the duty/priority of the pastors/elders. No CEO type duties in that.
If we must have all the hoo-ha we have added then the entirety of what might be considered secular interests should be handled over to a board, but not called an elder board for elders are pastors and we see their duties. Call it a Board of Trustees or Executive Board and let men that are spiritual but competent in business affairs run it. Make them answerable to the people with routine audits by a third party.
One can only imagine what the men who do a great job of preaching now might do if they were relieved of what might be called earthly cares. How much more pastoring might he get done without having to pass it off to assistants or associates?
