MAMA TRIED
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
INTRO:
**It is obvious not everyone had a mother that trained them to follow the path of Bible truths, and there are less mothers training it today than ever because there are less mothers who even know it enough to teach it to their children.
**However, this is a great promise from the Lord that if mothers and dads would just train their children, then they will follow that path when they are older.
**My Dad always said that the Bible didn’t say it, but it could have easily said, “Train up a child in the way he should NOT go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
**This message is for the purpose of encouragement. If you had a Christian mother that trained you in the right way to go, then this message is to remind you to do just that.
**If you did not have a Christian mother who did not train you in Bible truths, then this message is to encourage you to take these lessons and stick with the training that is within the Bible.
**If you have children still at home or even grandchildren, then this message is to encourage you to keep on training them in Biblical principles and truths.
**I want to give you three Bible truths my mama taught me to follow that everybody ought to follow – not because my mama said it, but because my Bible says it!
I.) MAMA TRIED TO TEACH ME FROM ABOUT LOVE
**She taught me two important scriptures about love.
Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
I John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
**I sure wish somebody would teach their kids about what they should love and what they shouldn’t love! You can influence a kid and train a kid what to love and what not to love!
A. Mama Trained Me to Love My Christ
1. I was taught to love the Lord with all my Soul.
2. I was taught to love the Lord with all my Strength.
**Most kids nowadays don’t know anything about Jesus at all. No one has told them about Jesus, and certainly no one has told them to always love Jesus with all their soul and strength! I wonder why this ole world is in such a horrible condition?
B. Mama Trained Me to Love My Crew
1. That means I am to love my Companion!
Colossians 12:18-19 18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your
own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love
your wives, and be not bitter against them.
**Love them and Smooch; love them and Support; love
them and Stick!
2. That means I am to love my Children!
1 Timothy 5:8 - But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
**Provide them with Groceries, Goodness, God, and Grace.
C. Mama Trained Me to Love My Church
Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your
hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be
ye thankful.
1. Love the People
2. Love the Praising
3. Love the Praying
4. Love the Participating
5. Love the Partnerships
D. Mama Trained Me to Love My Copy
Colossians 3:16a 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you
richly in all wisdom;
1. I was taught to Read it.
2. I was taught to Receive it.
3. I was taught to Remember it.
**Oh how sad it is that most households don’t have a Mama that is teaching their kids to love Christ, love their Companion, love their Children, love Church, or to love their Copy of the King James Bible!
**I’m so thankful that Mama trained me right from the Bible about love!
II). MAMA TRIED TO TEACH ME ABOUT LOSING
Mark 8:36 - For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
**Mama trained me that if I lose sight of these things, then I would surely lose altogether.
A. Mama trained me not to lose sight of the Commandments
John 14:15 - If ye love me, keep my commandments.
1. I am to keep the commandments in my Soul.
2. I am to keep the commandments in my Steps.
3. I am to keep the commandments in my Service.
B. Mama trained me not to lose sight of the Calling
I Corinthians 7:20 Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.
**If we are saved, then we have all been called to share . . .
1. The Truth of the Bible
2. The Teachings of the Bible
3. The Testimonies of the Bible
**It’s our job as Christians to tell others about Jesus and the Word of God!
C. Mama trained me not to lose sight of the Children
II John 1:4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
1. Let’s pray the children will be Saved!
2. Let’s pray the children will be Spirit-filled!
3. Let’s pray the children will be Serving!
**If we lose the children, we have lost the future!
D. Mama trained me not to lose sight of the Cautions
II Corinthians 2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
1. She trained me to be Cautious of Satan.
2. She trained me to be Cautious of Sin.
**Mama told me how to be watchful for Satan and Sin to slip in because when they got in the house it would cause me to lose a lot!
**I’m so thankful that Mama trained me right from the Bible about losing!
III). MAMA TRIED TO TEACH ME ABOUT LIVING
Galatians 2:20 - I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
A. Mama told me to Live in Holiness
Romans 12:1-2 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the
mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
1. We live holy so that our Heart stays Right!
2. We live holy so that our Heart stays Ready!
B. Mama told me to Live in Honesty
II Corinthians 8:21 - Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.
**I was trained to be honest with my Father, my Friends, and my Foes!
C. Mama told me to Live in Hope
Romans 15:13 - Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
**My mama told me to hope in the Lord and trust the Lord with my Faith, with my Fears, and with my Failures!
D. Mama told me to Live in Heaven
John 3:36 - He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
**My mama always wanted to make sure that we would live in heaven with her!
1. You got to be sure God lives in your heart so you know you will live in heaven!
2. You got to be sure Grace lives in your heart so you know you will live in heaven!
**I’m so thankful that Mama trained me right from the Bible about living!

**I’m thankful today for all mother’s who have made it their mission in their childrearing years to train up their children in the way they should go.
**We need more young mothers who will make it their mission to train their children in the way they should go.
**All a person can do is do their best and put it in the Lord’s hands. Our best is given if we study the Word of God and pass it on to our children.
**If your children are grown and not where they should be with the Lord, just keep praying and trusting God.
**If you had a good mother to train you right, but you have strayed from the way you were trained, is it time to come back to it today?
**Whether it is you or your children or someone else’s child, you should pray. Someone somewhere needs to come to their senses and come back to how they were raised and back to the Bible they were trained to live by!
**If you had a mother that trained you about Love, about Losing, and about Living, you ought to come and thank God for her today!
**I’m thankful today that my Mama tried to teach me right, and I’m thankful I have a wife who is a Mama that is helping me to train our girls right – right according to the Word of God!
