As a new creation in Christ we are not supposed to be like the people that are not yet in Christ. We are called to be separate from the realm of darkness, as a new creation the bible records that we are now a partaker of the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ and now live in a kingdom of light not of darkness.
Colossians 1:13
For He has rescued us and has drawn us to Himself from the dominion of darkness, and has transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.
Since we have been transferred into the kingdom of His beloved Son, which is a kingdom of light, we are living in a place that is full of light and not darkness. A new creation can never be living in darkness after receiving the gift of salvation.
In receiving the gift of salvation we are now a new creation according to 2 Corinthians 5:17.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
This simply means in Christ we are are a new specie that had never been before! a new creation has all things new and the old things have passed away, we now are a new creation recreated by God Himself. Without been a new creation we cannot have a relationship with Christ and we cannot live in the kingdom of His Son.
We are now a new creation in Christ and as a new creation we are called to have the mind of Christ - 1 Corinthians 2:16 ; Romans 12:2 ; Philippians 2:5. The mind of a new creation cannot be as the old one anymore, we cannot have the same thoughts as we had before and we are called to renew our mind with the word of God.
Scriptures on renewing our mind.
Colossians 3:2
Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
Psalm 119:11
Your word I have treasured and stored in my heart,
That I may not sin against You.
2 Corinthians 10: 4 - 5
The weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood]. Our weapons are divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ,
John 8:32
And you will know the truth [regarding salvation], and the truth will set you free [from the penalty of sin].
Colossians 3:16
Let the [spoken] word of Christ have its home within you [dwelling in your heart and mind—permeating every aspect of your being] as you teach [spiritual things] and admonish and train one another with all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Joshua 1: 8 - 9
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read [and meditate on] it day and night, so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be terrified or dismayed (intimidated), for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Ephesians 4:20 - 24
But you did not learn Christ in this way! If in fact you have [really] heard Him and have been taught by Him, just as truth is in Jesus [revealed in His life and personified in Him], that, regarding your previous way of life, you put off your old self [completely discard your former nature], which is being corrupted through deceitful desires, and be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh, untarnished mental and spiritual attitude], and put on the new self [the regenerated and renewed nature], created in God’s image, [godlike] in the righteousness and holiness of the truth [living in a way that expresses to God your gratitude for your salvation].
We as new creation should let go of our ways of thinking and doing things that are not kingdom related anymore, we cannot mix the old with the new, - Matthew 9:17, that is not possible anymore. How can we as new creations mix the old with the new?. A new creation has God in them, the word of God says so in 1 Corinthians 3:16.
John chapter 1: 1 - 5 says this:
In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and [b]the Word was God Himself. He was [continually existing] in the beginning [co-eternally] with God. All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him not even one thing was made that has come into being. In Him was life [and the power to bestow life], and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines on in the darkness, and the darkness did not understand it or overpower it or appropriate it or absorb it [and is unreceptive to it].
What a wonderful God we have as a Father that cares for us so much that He said as a new creation in Christ our light cannot be overpowered by darkness, we are really blessed to be a new creation. It simply means that we have God's light in us and there is no form of darkness that can overcome us as new creations.
We have the mind of a new creation.
2 Corinthians 6: 14 - 16
Do not be unequally bound together with unbelievers [do not make mismatched alliances with them, inconsistent with your faith]. For what partnership can righteousness have with lawlessness? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony can there be between Christ and Belial (Satan)? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said:
“I will dwell among them and walk among them;
And I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
what is the meaning of been unequally yoked?
It means that there is one strong ox and one weaker ox, or one taller one and one shorter. The weaker or shorter ox would walk more slowly than the taller, stronger one, causing the load to go around in circles. When oxen are unequally yoked, they cannot perform the task given to them.
God is saying here through his disciple Paul, that we cannot as new creations be bound with unbelievers, and we cannot as children of light that belong to the kingdom of God have an any form of relationship wit Satan, when we have God living in us.
When Jesus appeared to me we were in a very bright light because Jesus is the light of the world and as soon as He gave me His commission, I saw Satan in very deep darkness, I had to look properly at Him because of the darkness that He was in. I mean that I was with Jesus in the spirit realm walking with Him and talking with Him before He sent me back to my body.
Galatians 5:9 records this to us as a new creation in Christ:
A little leaven [a slight inclination to error, or a few false teachers] leavens the whole batch [it perverts the concept of faith and misleads the church].
There are so many false doctrines out there that is causing the body of Christ to live in deception and the word also records that as a new creation we are to be careful so as not to fall away from the truth of the gospel - Matthew 24:24 ; 2 Timothy 4: 3-4 ; 2 Corinthians 11: 13 - 15 ; 1 John 4: 1 - 3.
We are to be careful in this end times, that we need to stand firm in the truth of the word of God and be more alert than before. The word says to us as new creations that the Devil roams around like a roaring lion seeking whom to devour - 1 Peter 5:8.
We have the mind of a new creation.
As new creations the word advises us to put on the whole armour of God:
Ephesians 6: 10 - 18
In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [draw your strength from Him and be empowered through your union with Him] and in the power of His [boundless] might. Put on the full armor of God [for His precepts are like the splendid armor of a heavily-armed soldier], so that you may be able to [successfully] stand up against all the schemes and the strategies and the deceits of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) places. Therefore, put on the complete armor of God, so that you will be able to [successfully] resist and stand your ground in the evil day [of danger], and having done everything [that the crisis demands], to stand firm [in your place, fully prepared, immovable, victorious]. So stand firm and hold your ground, having tightened the wide band of truth (personal integrity, moral courage) around your waist and having put on the breastplate of righteousness (an upright heart), and having strapped on your feet the gospel of peace in preparation [to face the enemy with firm-footed stability and the readiness produced by the good news]. Above all, lift up the [protective] shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
With all prayer and petition pray [with specific requests] at all times [on every occasion and in every season] in the Spirit, and with this in view, stay alert with all perseverance and petition [interceding in prayer] for all God’s people.
Putting on the whole armor of God will help us to stand our ground in the face of adversities and all sorts of trials that comes into our lives as new creations, this is what we are encouraged to do and as we do this, we are to trust in God with all of our heart and to believe that He loves us as His new creation.
A new creation that obeys the word of God because he or she loves God cannot live a defeated life not now or ever will live a life of defeat, when the word says that the one in us the greater than he that is in the world - 1 John 4:4. And the word says we shall know the truth and the truth we know shall set us free - John 8 :32. Also Christ in us is the hope of glory - Colossians 1: 27.
A new creation is born from above according to God's word:
John 3: 1 - 16
There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”
Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.
Nicodemus answered and said to Him, “How can these things be?”
Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man [b]who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
Our gift of salvation that made us a new creation is not by our might nor by our power but by the Lord Himself and this is why we are born from above, it is not something that we can boast about, but we can boast in the Lord who called us by Himself and made us His children whom He loves with all of His being.
Therefore in Him we have the mind of a new creation which is to be renewed as long as we are in this world, remember that the old things as passed away and the new has come, a new creation lives and moves and as his being in Christ - Acts 17:28.
Also as a new creation we are to live by faith and not by sight written in 2 Corinthians 5:7
The Lord was explaining to me this past week that by focusing on what we are hearing, seeing, feeling we are living by sight and that causes a lot of depression and this will cause us not to trust in Him as our Father, and He said by living in faith we are to believe in what He said to us in His word, when we choose to live by faith we are to give thanks to Him in our time of waiting after we have asked Him for whatever we want.
He also said the too much focus on our circumstances will bring in fear and from there Satan comes in to steal or kill or destroy - John 10:10, our faith in Him as our heavenly Father, that is what Satan knows what to do best and He actually comes to steal our testimony of been a new creation in Christ.
In conclusion as a new creation that has the mind of Christ we are to be positive at all times and believe that God who called us will eventually come through for us all.
Remain blessed as a new creation who as the mind of Christ and believe that the One who sits on His throne is always there for us all. Amen
