The story of Peter and Cornelius in Acts 10 tells of a Roman centurion named Cornelius who, through a vision, is instructed to seek out the Apostle Peter in Joppa. Simultaneously, Peter receives a vision that prepares him to meet with Cornelius, a Gentile, revealing that God accepts people from all nations who fear and obey Him. This encounter leads to Peter sharing the Gospel with Cornelius and his household, resulting in their baptism and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon them, marking a significant moment in the early Christian church's expansion beyond Judaism.
• Cornelius's Vision: Cornelius, a centurion in the Italian cohort of the Roman army, was a devout and God-fearing Gentile. He received a vision of an angel who instructed him to send for Peter in Joppa.
• Peter's Vision: At the same time, Peter was staying in Joppa and received a vision of a sheet filled with various animals, both clean and unclean according to Jewish law. A voice commanded him to kill and eat, but Peter refused, stating he had never eaten anything impure. The voice then told him not to call anything God has made clean impure.
• Meeting of Peter and Cornelius: When Cornelius's messengers arrived, Peter, guided by the Holy Spirit, realized the vision's meaning and went with them to Cornelius's house in Caesarea.
• Peter's Message: Peter explained to Cornelius and his gathered household that God is not partial and accepts those who fear and obey Him from every nation. He then shared the Gospel message, focusing on Jesus Christ, His life, death, and resurrection.
• Outpouring of the Holy Spirit: As Peter spoke, the Holy Spirit fell upon Cornelius and his household, leading them to speak in tongues and praise God.
• Baptism: Peter, witnessing the Holy Spirit's presence, then baptized Cornelius and his household, signifying their acceptance into the Christian community.
