"For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless." (1 Corinthians 15:56-58 NLT).
Many people are scared of death. They however indulge in sin without any reservation. Most are ignorant of the link between sin and death. As Apostle Paul explains in 1 Corinthians 15:56: "For sin is the sting that results in death..."
Romans 6:23 also tells us that the wages of sin is death. Why is it that many plunge into sin with relish, even when aware that the result of their folly can lead to eternal separation from God?
Sin is alluring. Sin is enticing. Sin arouses the senses and our curiosity. Genesis 3:6 (NLT) records how sin entered the world: "The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband who was with her and he ate it, too."
God told Adam about the consequences of eating the forbidden fruit. But Satan embellished the truth of God and deceived Eve. The good heart of man became tarnished and spiritual death was the result. From then on, the heart of man became desperately wicked, bent on doing evil continually (Genesis 6:5). Like the sting of a scorpion; sin stung Adam and Eve and they were spiritual separated from God. Sin truly is the sting of death.
"When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,
idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God (Galatians 5:19-21). Sin appears beautiful and sweet, but the end is deadly. The momentary pleasures derived from sin is not worth the wages it pays in hell; sin kills. Satan wants you dead: Jesus says in John 10:10a, "The thief (satan) cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy..."
There is a wonderful solution to the problem of sin. It is simple, free and readily available. The solution to sin is Jesus Christ.
Romans 6:23 says: "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord."
Freedom from the sting of sin and spiritual death is in Christ. John 1:12 tells how: "But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God." This is further emphasised in Romans 10:9, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
The solution is as simple as ABC:
A: accept Jesus as Lord.
B: believe in him with your heart.
C: confess him as Lord.
God bless you. Shalom.
