In this day and time of murders, robberies, wars and infidelity, we can see that there is something wrong with our society today. Our society has been broken in many ways and the moral decline is just a part of it. Time and time again, we wake up to see on our local news where someone has been killed for little or no reason at all. Not only is it happening here, but it is happening all across the country.
We wonder what can we do to fix our world; but I want you to know that no matter how much we try to fix a situation, it will and can only be fixed by divine intervention. God said in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
We as Christians must realize that there have been some things that we have done or said that may not have been becoming to our character as a Christian. And without us leading the way, how can we expect the world to be influenced by what we say when they can’t help but see what we do. Maybe we talked about a fellow man; maybe we refused to help out when we could; maybe we didn't minister to those in need; or maybe we just turned our backs completely.
Whatever the case may be, we must realize that we all have something about us that needs to be fixed! Yes, we all need to find a fix. Brothers and sisters, to find a fix we first must now what a fix is. One of WEBSTER’S definitions for fix is "to make whole or sound again." Now the secular world has its own definition and sees a fix as a way of satisfying a hunger for a certain substance. When some hear the word fix they may think of an alcoholic and the fix he gets from his bottle.
Others may think of the drug addict and the fix he gets from shooting up, snorting or whatever he does to use his drugs. Still others could say it is the smoker who receives his nicotine fix when he lights up his cigarette, cigar or pipe. Others can see a fix aimed at the soda and coffee drinker who receives his caffeine fix from his Coke or coffee. Brothers and sisters, you can even think of some people that may get their fix from the food that they eat. You see when the alcoholic and drug addict receive their fixes, their idea of being whole is fulfilled.
When the smoker, coffee and soda drinker receive their fixes, they are once again calm, cool and collected. Even a food addict becomes “right” again when eating a comfort food. In each situation, the fix that is being received is not a permanent one. These fixes last only a short time, after which the users are once again looking to be fixed. The Christian should not be this way. Once we receive our fix from God it is permanent. Unfortunately though, because of our human nature, we tend to return to our broken state.
You see to be in Christ is to be in His spirit, to be in His character; it is to live in His ideas and principles. We need to find our fix. Brothers and sisters, let me tell you, in order to be fixed something first has to be broken. We are broken to the point that we don't always show these qualities. A plumber cannot fix a pipe if there is no leak in the building. A carpenter will not replace a wall stud if he sees the wood in good condition. A doctor cannot set a bone if the X-ray shows no break. When we don't exhibit Jesus in our lives we are broken.
Romans 3:23 tells us that we all have been broken because "all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Since we know this, we should be willing; no we MUST find a fix for our broken condition. There's one good thing about it, we don't have to look far for our fix, because the answer to our broken condition can be found in Jesus! Our text tells us; "Therefore, if any man be in Christ he is a new creature." The word “therefore” in this verse is stating that because a man is in Christ, or now that a man is in Christ, he has to change.
First, his desires must change. He can no longer be quick to engage in backbiting and gossiping; he can no longer be hot-headed and quick tempered; but because he is in Christ, he must show a love that confines and convicts. Secondly, his social standards must change. The world has numerous standards by which it judges men, some of them being birth, wealth, and status. To a man, filled and fired with the love for Christ, these things mean nothing.
A man filled with the love for Christ judges a man by his integrity (morality), not by his title; by his principles, not by his property: by his spirit, not by his position. Yes a man that has been fixed must change his social standards. Third, the man in Christ has a new spiritual history. He is a new creation. Creation is the work of God. It is the production of a new thing according to a divine plan. The Almighty Maker always works by plan in all things. We are now sinners saved by grace.
Lastly, the man in Christ has a new standing. The great need of man is to be reunited with God. Man's separation from his Maker is the sin of all his sin's, and the source of all his miseries. His reunion is not the means to his salvation; it is his salvation! Friendship with God is Heaven! On the other hand, separation is Hell! A river that has been cut from the fountain dries up; a branch cut from the tree withers and dies; a plant cut from the sun rushes into ruin. The soul separated from God; its fountain, its root, and its center, can’t help but to be broken.
It is broken and needs to be fixed. My brothers and my sisters, I just want to let you know this evening that we don't have to stay broken! We don't have to be without our fix!
(CLOSE) There is someone waiting to mend our broken lives; someone waiting to heal our broken spirits; someone waiting to fix our broken souls; someone waiting to put us back together again! I come to tell you this evening that someone is JESUS! Jesus can fix it! Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith can fix it! He is the Healer to make us whole! He’s the same Jesus that fixed the woman with the issue of blood; the same Jesus that fixed the blind man that he might see; the same Jesus that fixed the lame to walk and the dumb to talk!
He's the same Jesus that Pastor Lyons talked about last night that fixed Lazarus! He's the same Jesus that walked up Calvary's mountain, was hung on an old rugged cross, bled and died, to fix our sinful situation! Brothers and sisters I tell you, He's that same Jesus that rose on that third day morning, walked out on resurrection ground with all power in His hands! He has the power to fix whatever problems we have! When we have a heavy heart; HE’S A HEART FIXER! When our minds are confused and disoriented; HE’S A MIND FIXER!
When we are filled with despair; HE’S A HOPE FIXER! When the pressures of life have weighed us down; HE CAN FIX IT TO CARRY OUR HEAVY LOAD! When we think we've had all we can stand and we can't stand anymore; HE CAN FIX IT BY BEING A BURDEN BEARER! Brothers and sisters, we need a fix, and Jesus is that fix! Jesus is the fix we should search for! We are living in broken times and we should not want to stay broken! We are living in the last days and should desire to be put back together!
Brothers and sisters, find your fix! Hold on to your fix! Live your fix! And most of all help others to be fixed! BROTHER AND SISTER CAN'T FIX IT; MAMMA CAN'T FIX IT; EVEN DADDY CAN'T FIX IT! THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN FIX IT IS JESUS! JESUS CAN FIX IT!
JESUS, THE ROSE OF SHARON, CAN FIX IT! JESUS, THE LILY OF THE VALLEY, CAN FIX IT! JESUS, THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD, CAN FIX IT! JESUS, THE BRIGHT AND MORNING STAR, CAN FIX IT! JESUS, A LAWYER IN A COURTROOM, CAN FIX IT! JESUS, A DOCTOR IN A SICKROOM, CAN FIX IT! JESUS, A PURIFIER AND REFINER, CAN FIX IT! WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE YOU MUST DO A LITTLE GOSSIPING; JUST SAY FIX IT JESUS!
WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE YOU MUST DO A LITTLE BACKBITING; JUST SAY FIX IT JESUS! WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE TO DO A LITTLE LYING; JUST SAY FIX IT JESUS! WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE YOU GOTTA DO A LITTLE BRAGGING; JUST SAY FIX IT JESUS! WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE YOU'RE GOING TO BACKSLIDE; WHY DON’T YOU JUST SAY FIX IT JESUS! I MIGHT HAVE TO CRY SOMETIME, BUT I KNOW JESUS CAN FIX IT! FRIENDS GET FEW SOMETIMES BUT I KNOW JESUS CAN FIX IT!
BROTHERS AND SISTERS, WE CAN'T FIX IT FOR OURSELVES, BUT JESUS CAN FIX IT! WHATEVER IT IS, JESUS CAN FIX IT! LET'S STOP WALKING AROUND BEING BROKEN WHEN REPAIR IS JUST A PRAYER AWAY! DOES ANYBODY NEED FIXING TONIGHT!
