Every now and then I feel like doing a joyful dance in church, but it would be too distracting. During worship it might not be too bad, but I never felt led by the Spirit to do it so I don't.
1 Cor 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order.
We are called to worship in decency and order so if I do something to disrupt the service or draw attention to myself I am not doing that in the Spirit.
1 Cor 14:32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
Some have done such things and said they could not control themselves. Paul said that is not true. You can control the urges if they are not going to be appropriate. The Spirit will not lead you to contradict the Word so if you do something contrary it is possibly the flesh or the enemy leading you to do it. The action may not be wrong in and of itself but the timing can make it wrong and even keep someone from salvation or rededication because you broke up the moment of conviction.
1 Cor 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
We do not want visitors to think we are crazy. We do not want to disrupt the work of the Holy Spirit either during the message or the invitation by causing a distraction even if it is an act of effusive joy.
Someday, God may allow me to do the Hebrew dance I learned when I get that urge. It is not fancy so even I can do it, but not at the wrong time lest I quench the Spirit and even grieve Him. I ask for wisdom for me and you.
