The Power of 1
1 Samuel 22:1-2
Intro:
Last night if you have a cell phone in San Antonio Texas received a warning text
About covid-19 virus and how it is spreading rapidly.
For many brought concern
And rightfully
Others distress, worry, fear
Others indifference
Began to look at how this virus spread so rapidly from one person to affect a whole world.
Began to reflect this is the way the Gospel of Jesus Christ should be.
We often times forget or underestimate the power of one.
In a family it can take one person to bring great distress, conflict, turmoil.
But equally true in a family one person in Christ has the power to change the whole dynamics and future of that family for generations.
Joshua 23:10-11
Berean Study Bible
One of you can put a thousand to flight, because the LORD your God fights for you, just as He promised.
Therefore, watch yourselves carefully, that you love the LORD your God.
In 1 Samuel 22:
Story of David and the cave of Adullam.
David was running from King Saul
Chapter before had to act like a crazy man to escape a king
David went to this cave to escape
Just wanted to be alone
Alone:
We feel insignificant.
We feel unimportant
We can lose our sense of value
Begin to focus on our self.
Begin to feel shut out or isolated.
Nobody understands me and what I’m going through.
The first people that came to him
Was his family
And then everyone else
Distress: people with problems
In debt:
Discontented:
It would have been easy surrounded with these people to
Murmur
Complain
Become negative
Lord why did you send me these people?
I have my own problems
I need money
In the cave David began to turn to God
wrote 3 Psalms
Ps. 142 David is on his Face
Began to weep
Expressing his true feelings
Ps. 57 David is on his Knees
Trust restored
In the shadow of your wings I will make my refuge
Ps. 34 David is on his Feet
I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
David became a Father:
to those that were in distress
In debt
Discontented
1 Corinthians 4:15
New King James Version
For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.
In our society or churches today we have a lot of instructors, teachers.
But we don’t have many fathers.
Women don’t think you’re off the hook this morning.
In this scripture the original Greek translation for father is “pater”
one who imparts life and is committed to it
The need to impart Life!
There are many teachers, counselors people to give their advice.
But the question is what are they giving?
Are we imparting Life?
Hope
Encouragement
One of the qualities of a father
Not to give up on their children
Spiritual Abortions are taking place in our churches.
Yesterday texting a man who at one point
Worked with me
Didn’t give up
Call me to the altar to pray for offering
Could have said he will never make it and given up
Never underestimate the Power of One
This morning you can be that one
To put a thousand at flight
