Subject: The Holy Trinity
Psalms 8 (kjv)
1 O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
9 O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty

This is Trinity Sunday. The Trinity is kinda hard to explain in its totality. Psalms 8 is a wonderful way for us to feel the Power of God Almighty but does it really explain who the Trinity is? The Trinity or the Triune Godhead are other ways to say it. Another is to say who They are “God in three person”. We can see what He does, has done, can do. It explains even His name is Excellent on earth.
One of my favorite ways of explaining the Trinity is with Mark 1:9,10:
9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 As soon as Jesus came up out of the water, he saw the heavens breaking open and the Spirit descending on Him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”… Berean Study Bible
This is where we see Jesus, Spirt/dove, and the Heavenly Father together in one place.
Our names have reputations attached to them. He is a wonderful Pastor, or mediocre Pastor. She is a wonderful Mayor. They are wonderful parents.
So if we have reputations and they help people to know who we are I would like us to look at what has been said about God through His names:
1. Elohim
His amazing power is at work in every sunrise, every sunset, in the way He holds the stars in the sky, and carries His people through difficult times.
2. Yahweh
“I AM,” is the proper name of the divine person, coming from the verb which means to “all ways exist”.
3. Abba
Abba is the most intimate form of God’s name, showing us His character as our loving daddy.
4. El Elyon
“God Most High” – this name revealing God is above all gods, that nothing in life is more sacred. He is indeed the Lord Most High, the One who reigns supreme.
5. El Roi
El Roi means “The God Who Sees” – I love the kindness and care that this name holds as it points to God’s character. He is one who chases after us, who follows us with goodness.
6. El Shaddai
“God Almighty” – El Shaddai, reminds us that He is all-powerful, He is the Mighty One, He is the 9-1-1 to run to.
7. Yahweh Yireh
“The Lord Will Provide” – God will provide for our needs. Every one of them, He is faithful, He is able, nothing is too difficult for Him.
9. Jehovah Rapha
"Healer, the Lord who heals you" – This name brings so much comfort and hope.
10. Yahweh Shalom
“The Lord Is Peace” – God is the only One able to give us the peace that passes all of our own understanding.
God is a wonderful God, Strong, Kind, Understanding, able to give us all of our needs and piece within who He is, the one who created us, the one that breathed life into us. The one that gave us His word that allow us to know what salvation is truly is and how to receive it. He is a Mighty God, He is Triune, He is God in three persons. We will never be able to grasp who God is or fully understand Him while here on earth. But we can have a personal relationship with Him. We should never put the attributes of humans, us, into his character or who He is. He isn't human - He is GOD.
Have you ever wanted to grow deeper in your relationship with God, but you felt like you were in over your head? We go to church. We still feel like there's a missing link. We look around and wonder, "Why do some of these people feel closer to God than me?"
Luke 24 tells us as we read it that “God meets us where we are”. We go about doing His work and he is right there on our level of understanding. God will give us the knowledge, wisdom, and understanding we need to know him in a personal way. He meets us where we are so let us meet Him there.
