*Introduction*
Who is a Christian? You cannot become a holy Christian if you don't know who a Christian is.
Who is a Christian? Can anyone call himself a Christian?
I. WHO IS A CHRISTIAN?
1. The word “Christian” means “like Christ,” or “to be like Christ.” Acts 11:26. Therefore a Christian is somebody who behaves like Christ in words and deeds.
2. A Christian is somebody that has been converted. “Being converted,” or “giving your life to Jesus” as in one who has repented of his sins, accepted and confess Jesus as Lord and personal savior. Romans 10:9-10
3. Being a Christian means to follow in the steps of Jesus Christ and to be as He was in this world. The emphasis here is on doing, and not being hypocritical. Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” Matthew 7:21.
II. WHO IS A HOLY PERSON?
Likewise, you cannot become a holy Christian if he does not no what holiness is all about.
In 1 Peter 1:16 we read, "You shall be holy, for I am holy." What is holiness? How can we be holy?
1. The word translated "holiness" in the New Testament means to be "set apart." In the Old Testament, holiness was generally connected with God's perfection.
2. Holiness is synonymous to righteousness. Righteousness is literally 'right-standing with God. ' It has to do with one's status with the Almighty. Holiness means 'sacredness' or 'purity.
III. HOW TO BECOME A HOLY CHRISTIAN?
How can we be set apart and perfect? All people have sinned (Romans 3:23) and are imperfect.
1. Our only option to be set apart is through the salvation offered through Jesus Christ (John 3:16; Romans 10:9; Ephesians 2:8-9). When we believe in Jesus as Lord, He cleanses us from sin and makes us holy (1 John 1:7).
2. By reading your Bible daily. Psalm 119:9
3. Through your daily prayers. Matthew 26:41
4. Ask for His grace to live right everyday. 2 Corinthians 12:9
5. Live in constant faith and practice of your Christian journey. 1 Peter 2:9
