Summary: A message about looking at what we have done in our past and using for the future.

The Resume of life

Good Morning

Stand with me and lift up your bible and repeat after me.

This is my Bible.

I am what it says I am.

I can do what it says I can do.

I am going to learn how to be what it says I can be.

Today I will learn more of the word of God.

The indestructible, never ending, living word Of God.

I will never be the same.

I will never be the same.

In Jesus Name

Has anyone ever put together a resume for employment?

It is usually a description of what companies you have worked for, what positions you have held, what your duties were, and other details that pertain to applying for a new position with a company.

It is a brief explanation of who you are and what you can provide for the company that you are interested in working for.

Nowadays it is mostly accomplished by emailing it to a prospective employer or as part of the application process by just attaching to the application as document on website.

Then you start waiting and hoping that you will get a response.

Have you ever thought about putting your life on a resume?

You can put down where you have been, what you have accomplished, your successes, who you know, and maybe your failures.

Would you be happy with your resume?

I was not when I started thinking about it for this message.

When I look back at what I had hoped to be when I reached this age, guess what I started thinking about first?

My failures or my successes?

Hmmmmmmmm......

Both. I do something now that I was called to do.

I always try and tell people what I am involved with ministry and sharing the love of Jesus Christ.

I share the love of Christ to those behind bars, in rehabs, and those that live in shelters.

I try and teach them to look at what has happened in life for the positive.

It is not what I wanted to be doing in my life but now I am honored to be called to serve Him.

Each one of us are alive today for a purpose. We are all called by Him to have a life. We are to put Him first in all we do.

We are to become prisoners to walk in the calling that God has for our lives.

Open your bibles and turn to Ephesians 4:1. Say, “Amen” when you are there. Let's read together;

Ephesians 4:1 “I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called.”

What is your calling?

Let’s look at your life’s resume.

Each of us has life experience in many areas that others may not have.

An example for you; Me

I was in sales for much of my life and for the past 20+ years I have been talking to people all over with the love of Christ. Not selling but sharing.

I can cook, but only for two. Not in a restaurant.

I can change a tire and do an oil change but not much else with my car.

I can use my computer for some things but cannot program one or fix it when I mess it up.

I can do things around the house but usually have to call an expert for the things major things that need to be

fixed.

Do you see what I mean?

Did you ever buy something and then change your mind and return it to where you bought it to get your money back?

Have you ever gotten a gift you did not want but could not return it?

We all get gifts from the Lord and we can either use them, avoid them, or keep trying to do our thing.

Turn to Romans 11:29 and say, “Amen” when you are there.

“For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable “

There is a gift from God that is not returnable.

It is His love for you. You may not realize just how much He cares about you.

He let you be conceived in your mother’s womb and then gave you that first breath when you were born.

He has walked with you as you took your first step.

He listened as you spoke your first words.

He went with you your first day of school.

He pedaled with you on your first attempt to ride a bike without anyone’s help.

He was with you when you got your first job.

He was with you when you when you went on your first date.

He was with your when you fell in love.

He was with you when you lost a loved one.

He has been with you with every breath you have taken in your life.

Some of us in this room think that with all we have been through in our lives that we should not be breathing right now, but He does.

We all have a purpose in this life here on earth.

It is His world and with all that is going on in our world right now maybe it would be a good time to work on our resume and go to work with Him being our employer, our coworker, and our friend in all we do in the years ahead.

Turn with me to 1 Corinthians 7:20 and say, “Amen” when you are there.

1 Cor. 7:20 “Let each one remain in the same calling in which he was called.”

Do you hear that?

Remains...

Each of us has a calling.

Some people say that is just for ministry.

No.

The calling is for you to just for putting Him first in our lives with all that we do.

It is about changing habits.

It is about changing our outlook.

I work with people that have gotten into trouble the law and spent time in jail or prison. Each one of them when they are released has had a tough time finding employment.

One man in particular had a really hard time and stopped in for advice. We talked about his outlook on life and it was brought up that his priorities had changed due to the hard time he was having. We talked about his background and I suggested he pray a little more and ask the Lord for direction.

One week later he called me and was excited because a job he did not think he could get at first called him in for a second interview and hired him. The best part was how he explained he went to the interview.

He said he prayed and held the door open for the Lord to go in first to the interview and followed Him in. If you told someone who did not believe in the Lord about this you would have not gotten a great reaction. He was hired and went he went out into the parking lot after the interview he just cried out with a loud voice, “Thank you Lord.”

A man was getting out of a car nearby and heard him and said, “Amen brother. What are you excited so about?,” and he told the man what had happened. That man happened to be the owner of the company.

Life is good with the Lord being first. Even in times of hardship He is always there.

Life can change if we put Him first.

Who here would like to go back 20 years in life and start over?

I would love that.

With all that I know, the devil would be tortured every day because I would have more time to not shut up about what the Lord has done in my life.

But I cannot go back.

Neither can you.

But we can go forward each day even though there will be some tough ones and add to our resumes more and more life experiences and change the outlook of life for those we interact with on a daily basis.

We cannot see the future nor can we change it in any way, but we can make it more bearable by putting the Lord’s comfort and direction as our first priority.

Let’s stand and go to Him in prayer. Amen?
