4. Now in understanding death, we need to know the makeup of man.
a. a man is different than any other creature God has made.
I. What is Man?
1. Man is made up of three parts
a. Body, Soul, Spirit
b. Hebrews 4:12
2. The Body (World Conscience)
a. flesh
b. outward appearance, what everyone sees
3. The Soul (Self Conscience)
a. Most valuable thing on this earth
b. It is the part of us that will never die. Genesis 2:7
c. There will never be a time where we will cease to be
4. The Spirit (God Conscience)
a. What we worship God through. John 4:23-24
b. Spirit of a lost man is dead. Ephesians 2:1
c. The flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:8-10
d. The spirit is the difference between the saved and the lost. Ephesians 1:13; 4:30
5. So, our eternal life depends upon the Spirit of God dwelling within us.
II. Where is Man?
1. The bible says man is in one of two people
a. All men are born into Adam; Romans 5:12
b. Only the saved are born into Christ. 1 Peter 1:23
III. What is Death?
1. Death is separation
2. Death of a lost person
a. Job 38:17; Psalm 9:13
b. Separated from time, to eternity, from doubt to reality, from everything and everyone.
c. Not much to say about the death of a lost person, except an eternity in Hell. Revelation 20:11-15
3. Death of a saved person
a. 2 Corinthians 5:6-8
b. In salvation, God has made a 3-fold provision
1) Outstanding before Him. Justification
2) Present life in relation to sin. Sanctification
3) Our body after death. Glorification
c. 1 Corinthians 15:42-50; a natural body and a spiritual body
1) The natural body returns to the dust
2) The Spirit of God will give us a new body. Romans 8:11-23
4. Our new body will be incorruptible and immortal. 1 Corinthians 15:53
a. This present body has death, disease, decay
5. Our new body will be like Jesus’ body. Philippians 3:21; Luke 24:39
a. Same features
b. A visible, physical body
c. Flesh and bones, no blood.
d. No limitations
e. No clothing, grave clothes left behind.
IV. How Will You Die?
1. I don’t mean, how will your life be taken, but how will you die spiritually? Will you be prepared?
a. Rich man died unprepared. Luke 12:16-20
b. Ananias died unclean. Acts 6:1-5
c. Stephen died unafraid. Acts 7:60
d. Paul died unashamed. Romans 1:16; 2 Timothy 4:8
e. Abner died like a fool. 2 Samuel 3:27, 33-34
