WHAT JUDAS MISSED(discarded/threw away)-XIII—John 14:1–11(John 13:18--17:26)
OR--‘WHILE YOU WERE OUT/AWAY’
Attention:
Quiet Please:
A Sunday School teacher once asked the children just before she dismissed them to go to church, “And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?”
Little Annie replied, “Because people are sleeping.”
Those who are sleeping—who ‘check out’— Of a worship service completely miss worship & completely miss a great deal of very important things.
Judas was consumed with self. That is, what he unwisely ‘supposed’ was coupled with his own solution to what he had ‘supposed.’ That attitude caused him to miss vital conversation with the Teacher, Savior, & Lord.
Judas showed by his decisions, that he was not a fan of Jesus...
Judas Iscariot was not a fan of God’s design, as it involved a personal momentous decision-based relationship with Christ Jesus as Savior & Lord.
Judas Missed vital life lessons because of his unbelieving heart attitude AND as a result, Judas Missed his life’s focus due to his physical absence from Jesus...
Judas missed the entirety of Jesus’ example & teaching which took place from the time of his prematurely leaving their gathering in the upper room(13:30; Mk. 14:15) until he arrived in the Garden of Gethsemane, with a detachment of soldiers, chief priests & Pharisees to arrest Jesus!(18:3; Mat. 27:27)—[Roman cohort(speira—the tenth part of a legion=600 soldiers)] Need:
God’s People Practice...
*Gathering with the Church!
*Allowing God to use them despite their faults!
*Following God’s plain direction for them!
*Being an encouragement to others!
*Fulfilling their God-appointments!
...In doing so, they will never miss out on something vital & life-changing for themselves, their spouses, their children, & others!

Judas missed...The IMPLICATIONS In JESUS’ PROMISE
“If” carries the significance of ‘since’ or ‘because’ or ‘in light of the fact that’, etc.
•A promise from Jesus is never empty!
•Jesus’ promises are the promises of God...because Jesus is the sinless Son of God Himself! They are so trustworthy that they are life-altering, life-patterning, life-building, life-directing, etc..
The Significance of some Scriptural Therefores:
Rom. 3:28—“Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.”
No one needs to be a lawyer to experience the promises of God. But everyone who experiences the promises, must be a blood-bought Christian!
Acts 3:18-21—“But those things which God foretold by the mouth of all His prophets, that the Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. “Repent therefore & be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, & that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.”
Acts 13:36-41—“For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, & saw corruption; but He whom God raised up saw no corruption. Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man[Jesus] is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; & by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses. “Beware therefore, lest what has been spoken in the prophets come upon you: “Behold, you despisers, Marvel & perish! For I work a work in your days, A work which you will by no means believe, Though one were to declare it to you.’”
Rom. 4:16—“Therefore it[God’s righteousness] is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed[of Abraham by faith], not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all...”
Rom. 3:28—“Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.”
Acts 26:19-23—Paul giving testimony before the King—“Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, but declared first to those in Damascus & in Jerusalem, & throughout all the region of Judea, & then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, & do works befitting repentance. For these reasons the Jews seized me in the temple & tried to kill me. Therefore, having obtained help from God, to this day I stand, witnessing both to small & great, saying no other things than those which the prophets & Moses said would come-- “that the Christ would suffer, that He would be the first to rise from the dead, & would proclaim light to the Jewish people & to the Gentiles.”
Rom. 6:3-7—“Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin.
Rom. 14:7-8, 10, 12-13, 19—“For none of us lives to himself, & no one dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord; & if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.”.....“But why do you judge L
...your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.”.....“So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way.”.....“Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace & the things by which one may edify another.”

“I will come again & receive you to Myself;...”
Judas missed...GOD’s PLAN & INTENT.
Judas missed...The ENTIRETY Of GOD’s PLAN HINGES UPON, OR TURNS UPON JESUS.
Judas missed...The ENTIRETY Of GOD’s PLAN TURNS UPON JESUS’ LEAVING & SUBSEQUENT RETURN.
“Then” is understood.
Since Jesus’ preparing a place for His disciples, is certain to occur(in their time). And since Jesus says He will return, then He will also certainly return.
Subsequent to His return will be His personal reception of those same disciples.
Since Jesus’ preparing a place for you & me has indeed already occurred(in our time). And since Jesus says He will return, then He will also certainly return(sometime in the future).
Concurrent with His return will also be His personal reception of us.
Jn. 14:18-19—Jesus said,—““I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. A little while longer & the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.””
Jn. 14:23—“Jesus answered & said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; & My Father will love him, & We will come to him & make Our home with him.””
Jn. 14:28—Jesus said,—““You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away & coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.”
1Thess. 4:13-18—“But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died & rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive & remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, & with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive & remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.”

14:3c
“...That where I am there you may be also.”
Judas missed...BELONGING.
Judas missed...COMPANIONSHIP.
Judas missed...FAMILY.
Christ will return to receive those who are His.
His purpose in receiving His people, is to bring them to be with Him where He Himself is/lives/dwells.
Mat. 12:47-50—“Then one said to Him, “Look, Your mother & Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak with You.” But He answered & said to the one who told Him, “Who is My mother & who are My brothers?” And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples & said, “Here are My mother & My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother & sister & mother.””
Mat. 19:29—“And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, & inherit eternal life.”
Mat. 23:8—“...you are all brethren.”
The unity of the family of God is much like serving in the military, whose soldiers ‘go thru the trenches’ together. That experience binds us together in unfathomable ways!
Php. 1:21, 27-28—“For to me, to live is Christ, & to die is gain.”.....“Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come & see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel, & not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, & that from God.”
Gal. 6:8-10—“For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
Rom. 8:13-17—“For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, & if children, then heirs--heirs of God & joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”
