Death of a Marriage
When men abdicate
And women pontificate
Nerves begin to grate
Actions agitate, irritate, and aggravate
Angry words proliferate
So they bicarbonate and medicate
Until they separate
In a fit of hate
From the one they chose as a mate
Thus their family they decimate
By swallowing satan’s bait
Instead of allowing God to participate
In the bond they did consummate.

Hearing of so many marriages having issues lately, I feel it is time to recycle this poem. I will be married 49 years on the 24th to a woman that I do not deserve and I did not always value as much as I should have. I am positive my life would have been a series of disasters and a living Hell if she had not been my wife. I pause often and try to imagine what would have happened if i had married a few gals I thought I wanted and now can sing "Unanswered Prayers" with great gusto and emotion.
I greatly caution you. If you are thinking of leaving your spouse, you better do a reality check and get on your knees because you are most likely going to make the biggest mistake of your life especially if you have children.
One thing my mother drilled into me was, "You make'em! You raise'em!" You loved that person enough at one time to make a child. Maybe what happened was you and not the spouse. Ask God to change you and save your marriage as well as your kids.
Divorce hammers the kids most. They think they caused it. They don't know how to love people who no longer lover each other. They end up as pawns in an evil chess game.
Man up! Woman up! Put your selfishness or lust aside and love your kids. In the process, you may find love still exists between you and your spouse once you accept responsibility and seek God's love and change in your heart. He loves us even when we are total jerks. He can love a jerk like you and your spouse to where you love each other.
Don't believe the lies the enemy tells you. The grass is greener more times than not because it is growing over the septic tank. See peace. Seek love! Work it out! God doesn't divorce us when we screw it up so if He who is perfect can love the imperfect, you need to learn how to do the same you imperfect person. Be wise and not foolish!
