AN AMAZING THOUGHT: What would it be like to live in a world where deception was shunned?
- Zechariah 13:2-6.
PART OF OUR GOAL RIGHT NOW: Passionately pursue truth.
- What gets in the way:
a. We settle for our comfort over truth.
b. We docilely accept the things we’ve been taught.
c. We refuse to stand for anything that might seem counter-cultural.
A KEY QUESTION: Do I want enough truth or all the truth?
- Examples:
a. I don’t want to forgive.
b. This church isn’t meeting my needs.
c. Everyone says living together is no big deal.
ONE AFFECTED GROUP: For many people who have been Christians a long time, this is a danger because there is a “churchianity” that is socially rewarding but spiritually empty.
- Zechariah 13:1.
- Pursuing hard truth when we don’t want to is essential to seeing ongoing spiritual maturity.
- At that point in our spiritual journey, our growth will likely be in those edges.
- The “fountain” for cleansing isn’t just for salvation, but for sanctification.
- And cleansing isn’t just a matter of forgiveness; it’s also a matter of truth.
- You can’t ask for forgiveness when you don’t know you’ve sinned.
- Example: you’re raised with a Dad who is tough on you and so you don’t realize that you should ask for forgiveness when you wrong your children.
