You are Anointed, Appointed…. Believe it!
The origin of anointing was from a practice of shepherds. Lice and other insects would often get into the wool of sheep, they burrow into the sheep’s ears, then proceed to kill the sheep, so ancient shepherds poured oil on the sheep’s head making it impossible for insects as they would slide off. From this simple act, anointing became symbolic of blessing, protection and empowerment.
Anoint means to smear or rub with oil, to consecrate for office or religious service. People were anointed with oil to signify God’s blessing or call on that person’s life.
Exodus 29:7
Then shalt thou take the anointing oil, and pour it upon his head, and anoint him.
Exodus 40:9
And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is therein, and shalt hallow it, and all the vessels thereof: and it shall be holy.
2 Kings 9:6
And he arose and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said unto him, thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I have anointed thee king over the people of the LORD, even over Israel.
Ecclesiastes 9:8
Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.
James 5:14
Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
A person was anointed for a special purpose, to be a King, Prophet, priest. Today we anoint people with oil so long as it agrees with scripture, anointing is not a magic potion, the oil itself does not have any power, it is only God who can anoint a person for a purpose, the oil is only a symbol.
That is how we are here today, God’s Holy one touched every one of you who is a Christian with an anointing, (the sight giving salve of the Spirit), that each of you come to know the truth.
The anointing that you received from Him abides in you and you have no need that anyone should teach you as His anointing teaches you about everything and is true, just as it has taught you, abide in Him, Truth And Spirit, we must abide in both.
Do you realize that right now you are anointed by God, it is not just for special Christian leaders or speakers, it is for all of us.
Every one of you who is a Christian has an anointing from Jesus Christ.
Turn with me to 1 John 2:18-27
Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth. Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
So, every believer has an encounter with Jesus so that the oil or fragrance of the Holy Spirit has touched us.
Through the Holy Spirit in us we are all now anointed with a Kingly, Priestly and prophetic anointing. What does this mean?
1) You have a Kingly anointing for the battle against temptation, sin and evil.
The Holy Spirit urges each of us on in our battle against evil, you can call on the Holy Spirit to help you when you are tempted or even feeling that you are being tempted, you know He will give you the strength to overcome.
2) You have a Priestly anointing to pray and worship.
Priests were known as the mediators, intercessors between God and people. Tabernacle
Jesus fulfilled this priestly anointing by shedding His Blood for our sins.
1 Peter 2:9
You are a royal priesthood.
3) You have a prophetic anointing to speak the good news about Jesus.
Yet so many of us fail to do just that. Prophets were anointed and called forth to speak the word of God, that same anointing is in you to speak His word, each time you tell a friend about Jesus…
So, why were they anointed, then appointed into their station, prophets to proclaim the word of God, priests with their duties of worship and sacrifice, kings so that they can rule.
People anointed for healing, objects so that they could be set aside for Holy use, but wait maybe you have been anointed with oil, prayed over or you anointed, prayed over someone else, so what has happened to that anointing?
Let us look at a well know verse Matthew 3:16 -17
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Acts 2:1-4
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Jesus had to be baptized, anointed, so that He could carry out His ministry, the disciples needed to be baptized, anointed in Spirit so that they could go out, what makes you think that you can do it on your own? You also, we also need to be anointed, appointed.
They were baptized with water, then with Spirit, why is this so important?
You have been anointed but with what and for what?
Jesus Christ is the original anointed, appointed one, He was anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power, GUESS WHAT, IS SO AMAZING, IS THAT THE SAME SPIRIT WHO ANOINTED JESUS, HAS ANOINTED US, WHO LIVES IN US IS ALSO THE ONE WHO GIVES US HIS ANOINTING, THE HOLY SPIRIT.
YOU HAVE BEEN ANOINTED FOR CHRISTIAN MINISTRY while you live in this world,
You have been enabled, entrusted and empowered to accomplish God’s will
To be able to discern the truth
To be able to pray, speak in tongues
To be strengthened with power in your inner being
To be led by God
To live in joy, hope
To receive spiritual gifts
To bear spiritual fruit
It is this anointing that opens your mind, teaches you, guides you, calls you to pray, empowers you and enables you to be a stronger, more powerful Christian
Not just people who are saved but people who are saved indwelt and empowered.
Acts 2:38
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
It is only because of the cross that you have forgiveness of sins and the privilege of the indwelling Spirit, not only in you but upon you.
You are anointed vessels of God, you have been cleansed by God and have been filled with the Holy Spirit.
As the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples at Pentecost in the upper room and anointed them for service, you too have been anointed by God with the Holy Spirit for Christian service.
With a better understanding of what God has given you in Christ and by the Holy Spirit, you will be better able to live for God, better able to pray to Him, love Him, trust Him and better able to dwell in hope and joy.
When we are anointed by the Holy Spirit it is from God, if you are then filled with Him, you carry the anointing, you do not need more, you have everything you need.
We pray Lord, I need you more, fill me Lord, I want the gift of healing, Lord I want to prophesy. Can you understand that it is already in you, waiting to be used, the anointed, the holy One, the giver of all gifts is already in you…
Your job is to pray in His name, you speak, you pray, you preach, you pray, you lay on hands then it is the Holy Spirit’ s job to do whatever needs to be done.
You can be crushed by life, disappointed by life, but by His hand, by His name, you are lifted up, anointed, appointed to do His will.
Let us pray:
Holy Spirit, Lord Jesus let not anything, life , doubt, fear, circumstance hinder your movement in me, keep me connected to you, renew my mind daily to you Jesus. In your name I pray. Amen
