UNJUDGED
1 Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in
whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice
the same things. 2 But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth
against those who practice such things. 3 And do you think this, O man, you who
judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the
judgment of God?
1. DON’T JUDGE (1-3)
(WE CONDEMN OURSELVES WHEN WE CONDEMN OTHERS)
4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering,
not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? 5 But in
accordance with your hardness and your [a]impenitent heart you are [b]treasuring
up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous
judgment of God, 6 who “will render to each one according to his deeds”:
7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory,
honor, and immortality;
2. DO GOOD (4-7)
(WE DO GOOD WHEN WE LIVE IN HIS GOODNESS)
8 but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey
unrighteousness—indignation and wrath, 9 tribulation and anguish, on every soul
of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; 10 but glory, honor,
and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the
Greek. 11 For there is no partiality with God. 12 For as many as have sinned without
law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be
judged by the law 13 (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God,
but the doers of the law will be justified;
3. DIE TO YOUR PRIDE (8-13)
(THE SELF RIGHTEOUS WILL BE JUDGED THE SAME AS THE UNRIGHTEOUS)
14 for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law,
these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, 15 who show the work
of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and
between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them) 16 in the day
when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.
4. DO WHAT YOU KNOW TO DO. (14-16)
(WE ARE JUDGED BY WHAT WE KNOW)

WALK UP
Hey Ya’ll. Man it’s great to be in this moment right now. God is transforming lives and restoring hope, & reclaiming dreams. Let praise the Lord right now. Welcome in Columbia we love you and you guys are awesome building a great church.
OPEN
Ill<><I think this is kind of theme amongst a few of our pastors that we drive a little bit to fast. I’m not saying its terrible bad I’m just saying we might need to put a line item in the budget to help pay for all these tickets. I am not condoning speeding for all our law enforcement officers and holy rollers out there. I have been doing really good with my speed. I received my first speeding ticket when I was 15 years old driving a 1981 Buick Lasabre. I was doing 76 in a 55. That car was like a stretched out tank. I’m sitting on the side of the road all my friends are passing me by. He hands me this little piece of paper with a court date on it and it all got real very quick. I was thinking I’m going to die. It has been great living these 15 years. I get home & tell my parents that I got a ticket & somehow they already knew. I never stood before the judge but my father knew him well. He called my dad and said tell him the next time I’m going to make him pay the ticket but I’m going to pardon it this time. The judge said this. I got to school the next day several of my partners at school were making front of me for getting a ticket. I wasn’t supposed to say anything but I couldn’t help I said you know what the judge pardoned it & it really doesn’t matter what you think bc you have absolutely no power of my ability to drive this car. You can’t judge me only the judge can judge me.

TRANSITION
What Paul is dealing with today something Jesus dealt with more than anything else. It is Self Righteousness.
Paul has just finished nailing all the sin that was going on. He listed over 20 sins in a scriptural rant.
I’m sure a lot of the religious people were agreeing with him as he said them.
I’m sure had some Amens & a lot of agreement
Then he took a breath & addressed the religious people.
They thought they were OK bc they were a Jew. They thought they were OK bc there parents had been religious so they were good. However, Paul knocks their socks off with what we are about to read.

BODY
(Scripture)
1 Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge,
(Who are people that judge??? Everybody is guilty of this sin. Pastor I’m Not really judging just making an observation. I’m Not really judging just need to pray for this person. I'm Not really judging just inspecting fruit
Say what you want it is judging. You know it & I know it. Judge—doesn’t mean to evaluate it means to condemn—sentence—pass verdict (Not talking about Discernment)
for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself;
(for you who judge practice the same things. My sins aren’t as bad as them—Favorite pass time for self-righteous This is nailing the religious people. Everybody else is guilty but not me. It’s not my fault.)
2 But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things.
(Human judgement is based on prejudices perceptions but God’s is based on truth)
3 And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, & doing the same, that you will escape the judgment of God?
(Nailing Hypocrisy (Mt 7—judge others but you have a log in your eye) (Pharisee you are like white washed tombs)
(Application)
2:1-3 DON’T JUDGE
(WE CONDEMN OURSELVES WHEN WE CONDEMN OTHERS)
- We Accuse Others & Excuse ourselves. (verse 1) ReLabel our own sin. Don't gossip—sharing a concern. Not critical—discerning. Not lazy—Laid Back. Not unreliable—flexible. Accuse others & Excuse ourselves. It’s not really sinning its just the way I am. Red-blooded American. We relabel our sin.
- Forget our own sin. The person who thinks he has a clear conscience just has a poor memory.
- Ill<><Hypocrisy is the problem here. We condemn others when we in fact struggle with the same things. Like a young man that I knew that lost his mind over his roommate looking at porn & having porn videos in his room. He was livid over his roommate but a short time later it came out that he was having a multiyear affair with a married woman.
- We get upset if someone judges us wrongly but we feel we have the right to judge others bc we somehow are superior.
IF MANY FOLK WOULD WORRY ABOUT THEIR OWN MESS AS MUCH AS THEY KEPT THEIR NOSE IN SOMEBODY ELSE’S WE’D BE MUCH BETTER OFF.
- God's judgment based on truth ours based on opinion (v2)
- God is the standard. God judges by truth we judge by comparison/opinion. We compare ourselves to each other & either feel better or worse than we should. I was bad but I wasn’t that bad. I did some things but I didn’t do that. I'm overweight but I'm not that overweight.
- Funny—tend to judge in others what we don’t like about ourselves. (Our Harshest judgement—weakest area) Problem w/ pride—tend to judge people with pride. If we are Lazy—quick judge people lazy. When someone violently reacts to a sin—it is usually bc they have a fear of it or guilty of it.
- Ill<><America’s Got Talent was own TV when I sat down. It’s a show where people perform for & these judges who get to either pass them or fail them. People Sing/dance & when done stand in front judges & give their opinion on their performance. This is a physical picture of how most people function under the influence of the opinion of others. Their entire value is based on what someone else tells them. We subject ourselves to the judgment that is not spiritually legal yet we live by it. On this particular episode of America’s Got Talent was this young lady & she was singing. She had a good voice but as I listened to her I felt a touch from Heaven on her voice. Like this voice had been given by God. She was standing before the judges & all of them agreed she was very talented but not what they were looking for. She shed tears & was very upset. The Lord said to me she subjected herself to an inferior judge. If she chooses to subject our gifting and annointing to that time of judgment it will then be weakened & possibly muffled bc she subjected something that was intended to be used for God to a human system. She chose to take something that should have been judged by God & put an inferior label on it.
- Are you allowing the inferior to label you? Listen....You don’t put a bumper sticker on a Ferrari? Meaning you don't take something that is valuable & throw it to pigs. You use it for the glory of God.
- He thinks judging others puts him in a better position. v3
- Thinks—by judging makes him look better & makes us feel better about self. Pointing out fault in others—makes you feel better about self.
- Ill<><When people judge me & get angry w/ me. I remember that the Lord said it makes people feel better to judge you bc it helps them to feel better about themselves.
- So I got to say one more thing—bc people use this—Does that mean we have no right to speak into anyone's life? Does that mean....Teacher can’t grade a test—Can’t sit on a jury—Police can't tell someone they are wrong. It is a matter of Judging versus Caring. If you have a friend that is married & you notice they are being very flirty with women should you just mind your own business or speak up & say man how are things at home. If you have a child that lives under your roof & they want to wear certain things. Should I just let them wear it. No, you should be a parent. Especially if you have girls. I personally think Amish dresses are appropriate. If someone has a Springs shirt on & acting unChristian you have the right to say hey man think about how you act bc representing God & church. If you care for someone one then you should care for them. People know the difference between someone that loves them & someone that condemns them.
—————————————————————————————————
(Scripture)
4 Or do you despise (undervalue) the riches of His goodness, forbearance, & longsuffering, (God's been so patient—don’t undervalue that) not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
(Paul saying not the rant I just went on that is going to compel people to come to turn from their sin) (If they knew how good God is the way that you do they’d be more grateful than you) (God been good—He knows everything about you & doesn’t just blow you up) (Sit out there flap your angel wings & polish your halo & look Holy but I know)(Not preaching to Presbyterian Church Choir)(Really good sinner. Like you were good at sin)God has a legitimate reason to just take you out)(This is the message that draws people to Christ. PAUSE—FOUNDATIONAL—CHURCH—Believe way bring people Christ has lifted Him up & people will come to him.
Tell people—You are going to hell—where weeping & gnashing teeth & the worm never dies) (The pastor talked about Hell like he was born & raised there.)(How effective is that preaching?)
5 But in accordance with your hardness & your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath & revelation of the righteous judgment of God, (Referring to Great White Throne judgement)
6 who “will render to each one according to his deeds”: (Everybody is going to be judged individually)
7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, & immortality;
(Applicaiton)
2:4-7 – DO GOOD.
(WE DO GOOD WHEN WE LIVE IN HIS GOODNESS)
- God has been so good to us & when you live in the awareness of that you will be good to other people.
- Treasuring up Wrath—Storing up?
- Ill<><What are you storing up? I heard the story of this couple & I have used to before that were very successful in the real estate market. They were so successful that they both retired in their late forties. They bought a large house on the beach & traveled the world. The reason they were in this magazine was bc they had a world-renowned collection of Seashells. After retirement, they flew all over the world collecting these shells. They had a room built for their shells. I thought to myself when they get before God what will they say. Hey God looks at my shells. We have the greatest collection of shells bc we spent our whole life.
- What are you storing up?
Temporary Things Eternal Things
Bitterness Forgiveness
Deception Truth
Anger Joy
Greed Generosity
- If you got your statement from Heaven I wonder what it would look like. I wonder how much would be in the Goodness Account & how much in the Wrath Account. The only person that is Authorized to Deposit into the Account is you. You will be responsible for it.
- Paul speaking to people who thought bc they were born into a certain bloodline they were good. You got to get your own Faith. Can’t live off of your mom’s faith. Family Faith rather than putting Faith in Family.
- Ill<><So many people have told me this. West I love to come to church but I can’t come bc my whole family goes to this church. I understand that but you’ve got to have your own faith. I’d love to be able to go to church with my family and I’m not saying that you shouldn’t. I’m saying their family is keeping them from following God.
- You got to learn to have your own faith.
- You gotta learn to open up your Bible & read it for yourself.
- You gotta learn to pray for yourself.
- You gotta learn to be faithful to your God & your church yourself.
- You gotta learn to fight your own spiritual battles. Get on your knees—call out to your God—
———————————————————————————
(Scripture)
8 but to those who are self-seeking
(hireling for money regardless who actions affect others)
& do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation & wrath 9 tribulation & anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, (No one escapes this) of the Jew first & also of the Greek; 10 but glory, honor, & peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first & also to the Greek. 11 For there is no partiality with God.
(God is the same for everyone. Preacher—Prostitute—Pope—Pimp all be judge the same. God doesn’t wink at sin. We function on the Good Ole Boy/Good Ole Gal System in small towns. Certain people have more leverage & influence. If you know the right people. Get in a little trouble w/ the law its OK my sister is sleeping with the this guy & he can pull a few strings. Little partiality. (Pretty & Ugly—Fat & Skinny—Powerful & Powerless all be same)
God gives no special privileges—My Granny founded the church—I’m on cradle role been there whole life—I went to Springs God surely hook me up—Won’t bc I preached here & I’ll be judged just like you. Same through out history. (God doesn’t grade on a curve)(Wasn’t it great when teacher graded on curve)
12 For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, & as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law
Be judged by what we know not by what we should have known. Be held accountable for what we knew to do.
13 (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified; (When we obey do what the Word says we will be made right)
—Major Revelation—You will have no privilege when you are judged.
—Major Revelation—God judges the actions produced buy the heart.
(Applicaiton)
2:8-13 – DIE TO YOUR PRIDE.
(THE SELF RIGHTEOUS WILL BE JUDGED THE SAME AS THE UNRIGHTEOUS)
APP<><I personally feel pride is one of the main problems in the church today. I have contributed to that problem many times. One group thinks they’ve corner the market on truth…Baptist are going to be judged just like the Methodist & Pentecostal. Character or Reputation. What everyone thinks of you. What God thinks of you.
———————————————————————-
(Scripture)
14 for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves,
(Saying to Self Righteous—Gentiles don’t have law but by nature are following the law bc of the conscience I put in them)
15 who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, & between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them
(There divine preprogrammed activation system inside of us that intuitively knows when we are doing wrong or right)
16 in the day (Final Judgement) when God will judge the secrets of men (Character) by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.
(Application)
2:14-16 – DO WHAT YOU KNOW TO DO.
(WE ARE JUDGED BY WHAT WE KNOW)
APP<><Problem with most people in this room is not that you don’t know what to do is that you don’t do what you know to do. (Distracted—Busy)
- Whatever your excuse is it’s just an excuse. Even those saved later in life know a good bit.
- Ill<><Here is something to chew on—Why is it that the people that have most access to God’s Word least resemble God’s Word & the people with the most limited access to God’s Word look the most like God’s Word. Look at US—never had more access to God’s Word in history. Now Look at China—So limited to the word yet their churches look more like the acts church that ours does.
- We know so much—Yet do so little. (We will be accountable for what we know to do) Sin of Commision—what we did. Sin of Omission—what we didn’t do. Some people have said need more doctrine & theology & I love those two thing but If you know it & don’t do it what good is knowing it.
- So in the time I have w/ you I try to give you ways to put the word into practice…I could parse every Greek word for you but what good is knowing but not doing…
Ill<><Here is my mind set—If somebody is hanging on the side of a mountain & you are speaking to them. They don’t need the original language & spend 45 minutes dialoguing about how I know how to climb a mountain. They need to know there is a rock right here grab it. Put your feet here. My goal on Sunday Morning is to get you up the mountain. You don’t have to understand the mountain. You don’t have to even know where you are on the mountain. You simply obey the next move.
- What translation of the Bible do you like? I get that question a lot. I preach in environment where they prefer a particular translation. I like alot NKJV/NLT/KJV. My favorite version of the Bible is the Action Bible. I’ve never heard of that translation. Its the translation where the people take the words in the Bible & act them out in their live.
- Here is my challenge--Just do something—What do you want me to do?- Something-Anything-just put into pratice what you already know & see what God does.

CLOSE
Next Week this thing gets better—Last two weeks have been heavier scriptures.
Ill<><It is very daunting to think about that one day you will have to stand in front of God. I’m not sure what that’s going to look like. I don’t know if its going to be like DMV where you take a number & they call you. I’m pretty sure that is Hell. When your name is called you stand in front of God. Another speeding ticket out I got I had to go to court. I was pulling a horse trailer without a tag & was speeding there were multiple things. I walked into the courtroom & sat there with everyone else. I was chatting never been there before. I looked at the name plate on the judge desk it said Billy Grahm. I said oh i got this. Only thing better than Billy Grahm is Jesus. God is with me. She walked in & we stood up & she called a name & it was like Judge Judy in Jones County. She got to me. Said Guilty or not I said Guilty. She proceeded to tell everyone in the courtroom how fast I was going & what my charges were.
I don’t know if that is how it’s going to be
Ill<><My job is to get you ready to meet the Lord. Remember when the teacher would say we are going to have a test but I’m going to give you the answers to the the test. I just read the answers and passed the test. God has given us the answer to the test. In fact if we know the answer to the test we get to skip the test if we go by Revelation 20. Do you remember sometimes in school had teacher, if did certain thing, could skip final? Maybe if did certain paper could skip final? Good news! There way skip final, way bypass judgement. Won't even have go through it. Revelation 20. There is a book of life & all those who’s name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Live will not face the Great White Throne Judgement. How do you get in that book? You Trust your whole life to Christ.
