Attention:

Duke University freshman basketball sensation Zion Williamson was injured within the first minute of play in a regular-season game against rival University of North Carolina.

On Feb 20, 2019, Zion planted his left foot on the game floor hard, while dribbling near the free throw line. As he did so, the outside sole of his left, size 15 Nike custom basketball shoe, completely separated from the top of the shoe from heel to toe.

The shoe failure caused his foot to come completely out of the shoe thru the torn side. The incident caused Zion to lose traction which twisted his knee during play. He had to sit out that game & others, due to the injury. He returned to play again during the ACC Tournament only after... 1)having nursed his knee injury for 3 weeks; & after 2)having an entirely different pair of Nike shoes that were supposedly more substantial.

After his injury, Zion Williamson did not immediately enter into the rigors of game play. He had to fully recuperate physically & change-out his shoes, so he could be at peak performance for his team.

Because of the ‘Constraints Of His Restoration’, Zion Williamson has not disappointed his team or fans since his return in tournament play.

CONSTRAIN—‘To severely restrict the scope, extent, or activity of.’ OR--‘To compel or force toward a particular course of action.’

OR rather--for OUR/Today’s APPLICATION--To keep within God’s limits.

Need:

Our Success as Christians is Constrained thru certain relationships.

Rationale:

God blessed Noah’s family with a restoration based on relationship.

Man’s restoration is to be constrained/determined thru relationships.

How do relationships constrain/determine our restoration?

3 relationships constraining/determining our restoration.

We have already found that ‘Our Restoration is constrained thru relationship with’...

1. GOD(:1a)

2—Restoration is 'also' constrained thru relationship with...

REINSTATEMENT(:1b-2)

Explanation:(:1b-2)Blessing

:1—“So God blessed Noah & his sons, & said to them: “Be fruitful & multiply, & fill the earth.”

‘Reinstate’=‘To restore to a former position or condition.’

God “blessed” Noah & his sons with an imperative charge to “be fruitful”, “multiply” & “fill.”

This is a reinstatement of the original charge & “blessing” given to Adam & Eve(implied) in Gen. 1:26-28. This is the same wording/phrasing used in God’s original blessing of Adam & Eve:

Gen. 1:26-28—“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, & over the cattle, over all the earth & over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male & female He created them. Then God blessed them, & God said to them, “Be fruitful & multiply; fill the earth & subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, & over every living thing that moves on the earth.””

There, God made it possible to fulfill the charge thru Adam but it became tainted with sin thru their son Cain(who murdered his brother Abel) who established or rather advanced/propounded a legacy of wickedness. Cain’s aberrant promotion of self/flesh was never God’s intent.

“The imperatives of procreation” “must be achieved for the realization of the[God’s] blessing.” Through this we see that the detrimental effects of sin & the Flood have not robbed the Noahic world of the original hope.—NAC

Noah & his family are now the progenitors/fathers/originators/ancestors of all humanity in the same sense that Adam & Eve were. The generations previous to Noah & his family had been completely annihilated in the world-wide Flood(described in chapters 6-8).

Noah & his family are charged with bringing the legacy of God’s goodness to a new & succeeding generations.

Noah & his family are the sole ministers of a Clean slate, a Changed life, & the Confidence brought about in the privilege of Salvation lived out.

This new beginning will eventually produce Abraham, & ultimately through whom Jesus the Christ the Son of God & Son of Man will arise.

“Blessed”—Krb baw-rak’—Piel(intensive/intentional/repeated/extended) Imperfect—1) To bless, kneel; 2) (TWOT)--To praise, salute, curse. Strong—a primitive root; To kneel; by implication--To bless God(as an act of adoration), & (vice-versa) man(as a benefit); also by euphemism--To curse(God or the king, as treason).

“Fruitful”(See :7)—hrp paw-raw'—Qal Imperative—1) To bear fruit, be fruitful, branch off. Strong—a primitive root; To bear fruit(literally or figuratively). Used 29X.

“Multiply/Increase”(See :7)—hbr raw-baw'—Qal Imperative—1) Be or become great, be or become many, be or become much, be or become numerous—1a) (Qal)—1a1) To become many, become numerous, multiply (of people, animals, things), 1a2) To be or grow great 2) (Qal) To shoot. Strong—a primitive root; To increase(in whatever respect).

“Fill/Replenish”—alm maw-lay'—Qal Imperative—1) To fill, be full—1a) (Qal)--1a1) To be full—1a1a) Fulness, abundance (participle), 1a1b) To be full, be accomplished, be ended, 1a2) To consecrate, fill the hand. Strong—a primitive root, To fill or intransitively--Be full of(in a wide application, lit. or fig.).

“Earth”(See :2, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 17 thruout)—Ura eh’-rets—Noun Fem.—1) Land, earth—1a) Earth—1a1) Whole earth(as opposed to a part), 1a2) Earth(as opposed to heaven), 1a3) Earth(inhabitants), 1b) Land—1b1) Country, territory, 1b2) District, region, 1b4) Piece of ground, 1b6) Inhabitants of land, 1b7) Sheol, land without return, (under)world, 1b8) City(-state), 1c) Ground, surface of the earth, soil, 1d3) Level or plain country, 1d4) Land of the living, 1d5) End(s) of the earth—1e1) Lands, countries—1e1a) Often in contrast to Canaan. Strong—from an unused root probably meaning to be firm; The earth(at large, or partitively a land).

:2—““And the fear of you & the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, & on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand.”

This is in answer to the original determination of God for Adam & Eve regarding their relation to animals.

Having “dominion over” in vs. 1:28 does not necessitate a “fear & dread” of those animals under man’s dominion.

Noah now is explicitly told that every animal’s kind on earth would possess a “fear” & “dread” of Noah. It is implied that this respect directed at Noah is in fact, extended to all succeeding generations of mankind.

There is, from this point on in Scripture, never any recanting/reforming of this “blessing” or the following ‘rainbow covenant’ of vv. :9-17. It is universal & intended for all the earth for all the time “while the earth remains”(8:21-22).

“Every beast” is further described as “all that move” & as every moving thing that lives”(:3).

Such an inherent “fear” & “dread” in the animals is indirectly tied to the fact that God has “given” all of them “into [Noah’s] hand.”

In other words, the authority for the welfare of animal-kind is completely at Noah & his progeny’s disposal. The power of life &/or death is now in Noah’s control—as well as in the hands of all future generations of humanity.

Yet there is an implied ‘respect’ with which Noah & following are expected to wield such responsibility.

It is minimally implied by the mere fact that God brought them all thru the Flood in order that they might “be fruitful & multiply on the earth.”

Mankind’s responsibility in the light of sin’s presence in the world “involves accountability before God for the stewardship of the “good” earth. Though it is tainted by sin, it still possesses valued life in His eyes.”—NAC

Argumentation:

1Cor. 5:6-8—“Your glorying[in sin] is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice & wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity & truth.”

2Cor. 3:2-17—“You are our epistle written in our hearts, known & read by all men; clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart. And we have such trust through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. But if the ministry of death, written & engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away, how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious? For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory. For even what was made glorious had no glory in this respect, because of the glory that excels. For if what is passing away was glorious, what remains is much more glorious. Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech-- unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; & where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

2Cor. 5:17—“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

Gal. 2:11-21—“Now when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed; for before certain men came from James, he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew & separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision. And the rest of the Jews also played the hypocrite with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy. But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, “If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles & not as the Jews, why do you compel Gentiles to live as Jews? “We who are Jews by nature, & not sinners of the Gentiles, knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ & not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified. But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is Christ therefore a minister of sin? Certainly not! For if I build again those things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; & the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me & gave Himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.”

Matt. 15:10-14—“When He[Jesus] had called the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear & understand: “Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.” Then His disciples came & said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?” But He answered & said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.”

Gen. 1:31—“Then God saw everything that He had made, & indeed it was very good. So the evening & the morning were the sixth day.”

Heb. 2:5-18—“For He has not put the world to come, of which we speak, in subjection to angels. But one testified in a certain place, saying: “What is man that You are mindful of him, Or the son of man that You take care of him? You have made him a little lower than the angels; You have crowned him with glory & honor, And set him over the works of Your hands. You have put all things in subjection under his feet.” For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory & honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things & by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. For both He who sanctifies & those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying: “I will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You.” And again: “I will put My trust in Him.” And again: “Here am I & the children whom God has given Me.” Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh & blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, & release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham. Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful & faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.”
