SIGNS AND WONDERS 1
TEXT: JOHN 2:1-11
INTRODUCTION
We are made for signs and wonders to the world. God made it so to show the world that He is alive and the supreme God. Isaiah 8:18 Here am I, and the children the Lord has given me. We are signs and symbols in Israel from the Lord Almighty, who dwells on Mount Zion. With Moses, God publicly disgraced Pharaoh and the gods of Egypt, the signs and wonders of God defeated the magicians of Egypt. Signs and wonders are real and durable.
1) NO ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT FOR : John 2:2, Jeremiah 33:3
To be the people of signs and wonders, we should not have assumptions about God. We must consciously invite Jesus in those issues that we expect signs and wonders. Don't assume that God knows - John 2:3-4. He wants us to inform Him, why should God wait for us to tell Him what He already knows? Is it not wickedness? No! God wants us to be intimate in our relationship with Him. There are other issues of our lives that we don't need to inform Him before we get them, like the rising of the sun, air, life, etc.
Don't assume that God has power, Seek for it - Matthew 7:7. Don't assume the presence of God, we must call for it- Jeremiah 33:3. Recognizing God's presence is vital for signs and wonders. In Luke 7:36, 44-48; A certain woman saw Jesus and recognized the presence of Jesus by pouring out the alabaster oil on Him. This sincere recognition gave her salvation, she received the grace and her many sins were forgiven immediately. Does sinners bribe God with their gifts to have salvation? No! The main lesson that Jesus taught here, is the attitude of a sinner before God and the brokenness of the sinners heart at the presence of God.
2) A SURE AND STRONG BELIEVE IN CHRIST
Always be mindful of Jesus Christ in your life- John 2:2-5, Hebrew 12:2. Always keep in mind that Jesus Christ who commands signs and wonders is with you. The mother of Jesus Christ was not disturbed when the wine finished because her faith was in Christ. We also need those who point our attention at Jesus during crisis times. Our attitude to fear : Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Psalm 56:13 and Anxiety: John 14:27, Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
3) WHAT DO YOU HAVE ? : JOHN 2:6, PSALM 90:17
The power of God for signs and wonders acts upon those things that we have. It acts on things that are within our reach. Jesus didn't perform miracles until they brought six pots, what should be our attitude towards those objects used for signs and wonders? We should never attribute any form of worship to them. Naaman needed River Jordan for his miracles: 2 Kings 5:10, 14. In 2 Kings 4:3, Elisha told the woman to go and borrow vessels for signs and wonders. Elisha was a true prophet of God, he acted according to the leading of the Spirit of God. He didn't command that we must borrow to receive miracles, some are debtors because of borrowing without wisdom and God's leading. The Bible warns that we should not live on borrowing rather we should be contented and trust God for our needs.
Conclusion: Although miracles are real and very important among believers but we must channel great interest and passion on strengthening our relationship with God.
