Summary: Jesus says we are to believe in the written WORD of God. And by trusting in His word we have our breakthrough in Him.

JOHN 1: 1 - 3

In the beginning was the WORD, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

It's amazing reading this scripture and it's so powerful at the same time.

The Holy Spirit will have to help us to understand this because what the Holy Spirit is saying to us is that in the very beginning Jesus was present at creation with His Father and He himself is God and this is proving to us that God is One but yet He is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Wow! this is awesome.

The "Word" is Jesus Christ who is the eternal, ultimate expression of God the father.

In the OT God spoke the world into existence and in the NT God spoke the final word through His living word, Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the WORD!

And this is why it's so important to have the written WORD in us. Having the written WORD in us is having Jesus in us!

When we open the Word to read it's God communicating with us through His written Word. The Word is His will for us and it gives us guidance in our lifetime. The Word must abide in us for us to bear fruits. God does not want us to be barren ( not bearing fruit ). And this is why we need to spend time in His presence by going into His Word.

Several times in scripture we hear Jesus talking about the Word, example He said It is written and gave us lots of promises to hold onto and believe.

Believing in the written WORD is to believe in God.

Jesus would say to his disciples and us "Have faith" in God.

What did He mean?

We are to trust in the written WORD because He Himself is the written WORD!

This is just extraordinary!

In Luke 4: 16 - 21

So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,

Because He has anointed Me

To preach the gospel to the poor;

He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,

To proclaim liberty to the captives

And recovery of sight to the blind,

To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

Jesus who is the written WORD read the Word and said to them I am the written Word that as now become flesh!

I am alive and you can now relate to me in the flesh.

This is why the Word of God has written in Hebrews 4:12 is living.

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

He The WORD became Flesh and dwelt among us. And anywhere Jesus went, His Word that He spoke pierced their hearts and has children of God when we read the Word it does the same thing to our hearts. Why? because it's living.!

John 15:7

Jesus said

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

The amplified translation puts it this way

If you remain in Me and My words remain in you [that is, if we are vitally united and My message lives in your heart], ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you.

Jesus wants us to put His written Word in our hearts and He promises that whatever we ask for shall be done for us.

And remember that he said in His Word that His Word will not return to Him void. It will always accomplish whatever we have asked for. The promises of God is Yes and Amen to the glory of the Father.

Loving God is to obey Him by going into His Word.

Jesus said us in John 14:21.

The person who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who [really] loves Me; and whoever [really] loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him [I will make Myself real to him].” (AMP)

The contemporary translation:

If you love me, you will do what I have said, and my Father will love you. I will also love you and show you what I am like.

This is Jesus' promise to us, we are to keep His Word in us and as we do that He says He will reveal Himself to us. Alleluia!

The book of Joshua 1:8 is powerful

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. (NKJV)

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read [and meditate on] it day and night, so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful. (AMP)

Spending time to be in the Word of God is spending quality time in God's presence!

He is saying to us do not let my Word be far from you. In having His Word in us our ways will prosper and we will be successful in our lifetime.

God loves us and wants to fellowship with us through His Word and remember that Jesus is the living WORD who became flesh!

This story in the bible amazes me anytime I read it in the book of Matthew 8: 5 - 13

Jesus Heals a Centurion’s Servant

Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.”

And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.”

The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour.

What marvelled Jesus was that the centurion only wanted Jesus who is the written WORD to speak a Word only, and that was enough for him and his faith in the spoken Word of Jesus got his servant well.

All he did was to believe in what Jesus said and this to Jesus was a great faith!

What are we believing.? The WORD who is Jesus. Or the word of man.?

The Word says we shall know the truth, and the truth we know will set us free. God wants us to be free from any form of bondage but we need to start believing in His written Word and as we believe we see His power at work in our lives.

Everything was created by Him and for him.

Colossians 1:16

For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.

Therefore, we were created by Him and for Him. And this is another reason we need His Word in us and He made this powerful statement in John 14: 23,

Jesus answered, “If anyone [really] loves Me, he will keep My word (teaching); and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling place with him.

The Father and the Son will come and make their dwelling in us. That is awesome. But how do we get to that place of having them in us? By keeping the Word in us and once we have the presence of both the Father and Son in us we do not need to fret about anything.

The presence of God the Father and the Son will meet all our needs to their glory.

God loves us and He cares for us more than we do care for ourselves.

How do we get results in our lives? By having His Word in us and not only having His Word in us but we are to believe in his Word more than we believe in those negative reports.

We are to believe that the LORD will fulfil his promises in our lives, according to James 1:22

But prove yourselves doers of the word [actively and continually obeying God’s precepts], and not merely listeners [who hear the word but fail to internalize its meaning], deluding yourselves [by unsound reasoning contrary to the truth]. (AMP)

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (NKJV)

Now when we hear the Word of God we need to add faith and works to it.

James 2:14 - 26

Faith Without Works Is Dead

What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?

For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

The Word + Faith + Works = breakthrough

When we hear the Word of God, faith comes then we take it further by adding works to it.

Not the works of the flesh but asking the Holy Spirit to show us what to do and He will help us by directing our paths. And as He speaks we obey His leading. Sometimes we can miss it but that would not stop Him from continuing to help us. The Holy Spirit is our Helper and he desires to help us. He will never rebuke us but in His love He will always be there for us.

God in His Word said to us that we are to be wise in doing what His Word says.

Matthew 7:24

Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.

Matthew 24:35

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

Psalm 119:11

Your word I have hidden in my heart,

That I might not sin against You.

Deuteronomy 8:3

So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every

word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.

Jesus is the WORD who became flesh.!

We are to humble ourselves by trusting in Him as our saviour who came to save us by becoming flesh.

The Word of God in Proverbs 4: 20 - 22 promises us this

My son, give attention to my words;

Incline your ear to my sayings.

Do not let them depart from your eyes;

Keep them in the midst of your heart;

For they are life to those who find them,

And health to all their flesh. (NKJV)

And in the amplified

My son, pay attention to my words and be willing to learn;

Open your ears to my sayings.

Do not let them escape from your sight;

Keep them in the center of your heart.

For they are life to those who find them,

And healing and health to all their flesh.

The written Word is life and health to our body as we hold on to the truth of His Word. When we need healing we are to meditate on the living Word of God. When we do not let the Word of God go we will see the promise come into reality in our lives. It's like taking any medication that our doctor gives us, we diligently obey what the prescription says until will finish the dosage. That is the way we need to see the Word of God and obey it as we would with our medication.

If we can take God's Word like medicine there will be healing in our lives and not only health wise but in every area of our lives.

God is true to His Word because of His Son that He loves.

Isaiah 40:8

The grass withers, the flower fades,

But the word of our God stands forever.

1 Thessalonians 2:13

For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.

Acts 17:11

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

Ephesians 6:17

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God

Job 23:12

I have not departed from the commandment of His lips;

I have treasured the words of His mouth

More than my necessary food.

What God is saying to us is that we cannot do without His Word and to continue in His Word if we want to live a victorious life in Him.

The Word of God is living and powerful.

Treasuring the Word is loving God and His Son and inviting His Spirit into our lives to teach us His Word.

Remain blessed in His presence as you read His Word.
