Prov 3:27 -28
1.Who
The who is you! At first glance you might think this verse is about
people that need help but its really about you doing the helping.
There is a story told about a faithful old deacon whose oft repeated
prayer expression was, "O Lord, touch the unsaved with Thy finger."
One prayer meeting night he was leading in prayer when as he intoned this
petition, as he so often did, he abruptly stopped praying. Supposing
he had been taken suddenly ill, someone went to him and asked if
there was anything wrong, if he were ill. "No," he replied, "I’m not
ill. But something seemed to say to me, ’Thou art the finger’.
Phil 2:4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on
the things of others.
Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed
down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into
your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall
be measured to you again.
2. What “Good”
Everybody here knows the golden rule.
Matt 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to
you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
Luke 6:31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them
likewise.
Heb 13:16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such
sacrifices God is well pleased
3.When
Prov 13:4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and [hath] nothing: but the
soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
Prov 12:24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall
be under tribute.
Don’t put off until tomorrow the good that you can do today

5. Why
Matt 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your
good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Obedience to God proves our love for Him
1John 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God,
when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3 For this
is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and
his commandments are not grievous.
Demonstrates our faithfulness to Him
1 John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we
keep his commandments. 4 He that saith, I know him, and
keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is
not in him. 5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is
the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in
him. 6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so
to walk, even as he walked.
Glorifies Him in the world
1Pet 2:12 Having your conversation honest among the
Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as
evildoers, they may by [your] good works, which they
shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
and obeying God opens avenues of blessing for us
John 13:17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man
soweth, that shall he also reap.
We must first be made good before we can do good; we must first be made just, before our works can please God. When we are justified by faith in Christ, then come good works. Hugh Latimer
