Scripture:
Psalm 96:1-3 Sing a new song to the Lord! Let the whole earth sing to the Lord! 2 Sing to the Lord; praise his name. Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. 3 Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does.
Intro: The legend of the origin of Praise
There is an old Jewish legend that says, after God had created the world, He called the angels to Him and asked them what they thought of it; and one of them said, “One thing is lacking: the sound of praise to the Creator.” So God created music, and it was heard in the whisper of the wind, and in the song of the birds; and to man also was given the gift of song. And all down the ages this gift of song has indeed proved a blessing to multitudes of souls. —Maritime Baptist
Praise is our expression of delight in God Himself; our expression of the love we feel as we consider, “How Great Thou Art.”
Body:
We are to sing-a new song-
Psalm 40:3 He has put a new song in my mouth—Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, and will trust in the LORD.
Psalm 33:3 Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy.
We are to Praise Him with our lips
James 3:10 tells us that blessing and cursing are in the tongue.
Psalm 104:33 I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
Doxology:
Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow.
Praise Him, all creatures here below.
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host.
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
What can we sing?
Lamentations 3:22-23
Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
The Psalmist said it this way…
Great is thy faithfulness
“Great is Thy faithfulness,” O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
“Great is Thy faithfulness,” Lord, unto me!
Conclusion:
Why do we sing?
1Thess. 4:14-17 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
I sing because I'm happy
I sing because I'm free
His eyes are the sparrow
That's the reason why I sing.
