SCRIPTURE: Romans 8:7 "Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be."
PROPOSITION: to use this text and others to show that the carnal mind is vile and wicked and because of this it is at enmity with a God of infinite truth and holiness, and also to show that unless sinners are reconciled to God through Christ and recieve a new heart and life there is no hope for them.
1.) Why is the carnal mind at enmity toward God?
A. Because the carnal mind is of the physical seed of Adam, as Adam rebelled against Gods command so have we. Romans 5:12 "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:"
B. Because the carnal mind is of the spiritual seed of Satan, he is the spiritual father of all those who are in a state of condemnation. John 8:44 "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."
C. Because the carnal mind loves a lie and hates the "God of truth," Deuteronomy 32:4 "He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he."
Revelation 22:15 "For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie."
D. Because the carnal mind loves darkness and "God is light" . John 3:19 "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil."
E. Because the carnal mind does not want to submit to authority. "not subject to the law of God neither indeed can be"
2 Peter 2:10 "But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities."
Jude 1:8 "Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities."
F. Because the carnal mind is of this world, and this world is an enemy of God. John 8:23 "And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world."
2.) How does the carnal mind manifests its Prejudice and hatred towards God?
A. By the speach of the sinner often times we hear blaspheme and filthy communication. Matthew 15:19 "For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:"
B. By attempting to change the incorruptible God into an image that he forms with his hands or his mind. Romans 1:23 "And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things."
C. By Attempting to Dethrone the truth and enthroned a lie. Romans 1:25 "Who changed the truth of God into a lie..."
D. By suppressing the truth in their unrighteousness. Romans 1:18 "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;"
E. By pretending they're ignorant of the truth, and that there is no such thing as absolute truth, and that God doesn't even exist. Romans 1:28 "And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;"
F. By establishing their own righteousness through an outward display of morality in a form of religion, many attempt to take heaven as a thief or a robber through their abominable churchianity. Romans 10:3 "For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God."
3.) Why is it that Sinners in a carnal, unregenerate and unconverted state could never enjoy anything about heaven, but the temperature?
A. Because the thrice holy God, the glorified saints and the elect angles are there, and they could find no fellowship with them.
John 14:2-3 "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
B. Because of the constant praise and worship of God in heaven.
Revelation 19:5 "And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great."
4.) Why will wicked carnal men burn forever in the furnace of Hell?
A. Because what gasoline is to fire in this world, sin is to Hell fire in the world to come. There is enough sin among us to turn the earth into a raging inferno, or a lake of fire burning with brimstone, but God extends mercy unto the children of disobedience for a season, but if the sinner neglects this precious season, he will know what it is to "drink of the wrath of the Almighty", the furnace and sin shall never part, they are married eternally, all the curses of God are the sinners portion, and he is sure to get his portion.
5.) Why is the only hope for the carnal man in the Lord Jesus? "to be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace"
A. Because only Christ can give us a new mind, heart, life and set us free. 2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
Romans 8:2 "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."
CONCLUSION: The carnal minded man has declared war with God but "though hand join in hand he shall not be unpunished". wicked men may have different appointments with death, but in the end they shall all be damned together as all being apart of the same purpose, all were knights in Satans service, but any carnal unregenerate man can find forgiveness and hope in the only one true gospel of Christ if he be willing to come to the Son of God in repentance and faith.
1 John 2:2 "And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our's only, but also for the sins of the whole world."
Romans 10:9-10 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
