Gen.1:1-15
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
v2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
v3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
v4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
INTRODUCTION:
"’In the beginning" refers to the dateless past, it is the introduction to the Bible and all of history, because it marks the boundary between time and eternity. It is not a summary of what is to follow, because it mentions heaven first while the following verses mention the earth first.
The verses which follow refer to the earth’s restoration to a second habitable state.
That God existed from all eternity is clear in Scripture”
(Dake’s Annotated Bible)
l- GOD IS PROGRESSIVELY
A CREATIVE GOD: vv.1-3
With God, there is always a progression:
His goal is always to reveal Himself in progression for we could not surely comprehend Him if He would reveal Himself all at once.
“From Nothing into Something"
“... and the earth was without form, and void; and darkness” v2
“And God said, Let there be...” v3
“And God saw the light, that it was good:..” v4
See? There is progression!
From nothing, He said...
He saw what He said,
and He liked what He saw and said that it was good.
Progression.
Our life is also patterned that way
From a grand creation to a more complex humanity,
the Center of all His creation... the love of all His love... Man.
We are nothing; from the dust of the ground He breath on us
the Breath of Life and we became a living soul...
or should I say a “living soil.”?
We are nothing but a bundle of soil...
Then Adam and Eve fell from sin.
Humanity became without form, empty and void...
And darkness was upon our faces...
Recreation once more just like in Genesis1:2
God progresses in His Revelation.
His promise.
Genesis 3:15 “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”
And then, Galatians4:4 revealed the Progression of a qProgressive God.
He saw!
He said! The spoken Word once more.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
John 1:4 In Him was life; and the life was the light of men.
John 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
And it was good!
The Good Shepherd of John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.”
II- GOD IS PROGRESSIVELY A
SYSTEMATIC GOD: vv.11-12
Systematic is relating to or consisting of a system
Synonym: neat, orderly, organised, methodical, regular
Genesis 1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
v.12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
"From Something into Blessing"
You can not break the system
Look at the chronology of events:
Earth then grass and trees and fruit of its own kind.
God did not make first the grass and trees and fruit without the earth and the grounds for cattle and every animals and it’s own kind... in verses 20&21...
The seas and the skies, He created first and then blessing them with living creatures and producing accordingly with their own kind...
There is order.
Progressive order.
Ecclesiastes 11:3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Putting meaning into our life.
Not just breathing life but a meaningful, enjoyable, purposeful life.
Blessed life.
Not a life of fortune, or luck but calculated systematic life in Jesus.
That’s why Jesus said that you will only identify them by their fruits.
By their works you shall easily know them.
A bad tree can not bear good fruit.
Since we accepted Jesus, we are grafted in the good Tree
(Romans5:19 & Galatians 3:13-14)
From an ordinary life into a blessed life.
Without Jesus we are nothing.
From nothing to something.
From something into blessing.
With Jesus we would be beings of blessings.
That is the Christian system of living.
And what is a life of blessing?
It is a life of wholeness...
A life of holiness.
Spiritually connected with God since we accepted with Jesus and an eternal fellowship with the Holy Spirit
Emotionally connected with our fellowmen by transforming us into the character of Jesus setting an example for us on how to deal with our neighbour just as He lived as the Son of Man.
Physical and material Blessings and
Financial Blessings as well on being good stewards of our Lord.
III- GOD IS A PROGRESSIVELY
SYNERGIC GOD: v.13-16
Genesis 1:13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
Genesis 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
"From Blessing into Net Breaking Blessing”
Synergism= conditions such that the total effect is greater than the sum of the individual effects
Night and day equals one day
It is not good for man to be alone
Good and evil equals sin...
Adam and Eve equals Jesus!
