Summary: Jesus is the eternal WORD made flesh. He is 100% God and brings LIFE to all who believe.

Who is Jesus?

John 1:1–5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made. 4In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

I. Jesus Is Eternal. John 1:1

A. Before time was, He was!

John 8:58 Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am."

B. “Word” means:

1. Jesus

2. Logos means logic or reason; everything is about Jesus.

3. Includes God’s plan to save us through Jesus.

C. Jesus “is” uncreated.

II. Jesus Is God. John 1:1–3

A. Jesus “is” God.

John 10:30–33 [Jesus said] “I and the Father are one.” 31The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him. 32Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone Me?” 33The Jews answered Him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.”

Titus 2:11–13 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, 12training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, 13waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.

B. Jesus “is with” God. (Trinity)

C. Jesus “is” God by His nature.

III. Jesus Is Life. John 1:4–5

A. In Creation, He was the life giver.

B. His “life” includes His death, resurrection and ascension.

C. His “life” bought our life (this life and the next).

Application:

1. Jesus is eternally God.

2. Jesus is the only means by which we can be saved.
