Elijah Manifests the Power of God. 1 Kings 18:37-39
37Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.
38Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
39And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The Lord, he is the God; the Lord, he is the God.
Elijah was disturbed by the state of the people of God. They had shifted from true worship to idol worship. He decided to do something about it he stood in the gap to advocate for true worship and by his word it did not rain for three and a half years. Throughout the famine, the Lord sustained Elijah through supernatural provisions.
Decision time came, and they all met at the mountain for the true God to manifest. If Baal revealed himself by fire, they would worship Him, and if Jehovah answered by fire, then they would return to true worship. Elijah was confident in His God he understood His nature for the words says in Hebrews 12:29, “our God is a consuming fire.”
Even today He has not changed He is a consuming Fire!!
We need to pray this prayer of Elijah, That Jehovah will answer by fire; The church today has become cold and compromised. There is no more miracles and advancement in the love of Christ. We need the fire of the lord to fall down. We need that baptism of Fire that John prophecied about Jesus.
It's time to refuse to be comfortable with ordinary church regulations and norms!
Refuse to continue going to Church and coming out the same way we came in.
We need the fire of the lord to fall on us!
I need that fire to cleanse Me and revive me!
Steps to attract the presence of God.
For the fire to come down, Elijah did prepare. His turn came, and it was a perfect time … The Time Of the Evening Sacrifice. Elijah declared his intentions they were for God to be manifested. For it to be known that He was the true God, God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel.
1. He repaired the broken alter.
2. He builds the altar with twelve stones in the name of the Lord.
3. He made a trench about the altar
4. He put wood in order
5. He prepared the bullock cut in pieces and laid him on the wood.
6. He poured water on the sacrifice.
The preparation was very important for the fire to fall. The altar had to be prepared. The Lord commanded Moses that the fire of the altar should never go out. The altar was built with specific instructions twelve stones to represent all the tribes of Israel. This obedience to instructions ushers in the power of God. The trench was to separate and set apart the altar of God from the other ground which the prophets of Baal had already defiled by spilling of their blood and pagan rites.
The water was for purification and also to manifest a God of impossibilities. Water and fire do not coexist. Wet wood is hard to catch fire.
When all was ready, Elijah Prayed, and the fire of the lord Fell!!
How I pray that we may repair our altars today in great anticipation of the fire of God falling upon us to revive us in Jesus Name.
