I. The King has a Plan
A. Jesus knows He was about to face the cross
John 18:4 Then Jesus, knowing everything that was about to happen to Him...
1. He had come to save His people
2. The word “Hosanna” means “To Save”
B. Jesus sent His disciples on a mission
1. Tells them to search for a donkey
2. Prepares them to face opposition.
Jesus’ plan for the cross was made before the “foundation of the world.”
1 Peter 1:20 He was chosen before the foundation of the world but was revealed at the end of the times for you
Rev. 13:8 And all who dwell on the earth will worship him (the beast), everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain."
Jesus uses us to fulfill His plan even though it may not be easy.
II. The King has a Purpose.
A. Jesus went to Jerusalem for the Passover
1. Passover was the most important of all the Jewish celebrations
2. Passover was done to remember the past
3. Passover showed God’s power over the Egyptian empire.
B. Jesus was going to change the Passover
1. From a time of remembering the past (Egypt)
2. To a foretelling of the future (Jesus)
3. The Passover was all about Jesus!
The Passover was not to merely remember the freedom from Egypt but to point to Christ setting us free from Sin!
III. The King had a Problem
A. The crowd
1. Many “worshipped” Jesus on that day for the wrong reasons
2. They believed He would free them from the Romans
3. Many today follow/worship for the wrong reasons
B. His house had been changed
1. Money Changers cheated the people
2. Today many churches cheat people with a false Gospel
C. His house had been misused
1. Money Changers set up in the “Court of Gentiles”
2. Today many churches add legalistic requirements to the Gospel
Application:
1. We need to know Jesus’ redemptive plan was in place from the beginning.
2. Jesus turned the Jewish world upside down. Now He wants to turn your world upside down.
3. When you worship Jesus, is it because of what you can “get” from Him? Or is it a response to the redemption He has given?
