A BLOODY MESS
Exodus 12:13
13 But the blood on your doorposts will serve as a sign, marking the houses where you are staying. When I see the blood, I will pass over you. This plague of death will not touch you when I strike the land of Egypt.
Ephesians 1:6-8
6 So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.[b] 7 He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. 8 He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.
Beloved, allow me for just a moment today to remind each & every one of you that you are a Bloody Mess.
Here we have before us this morning two passages of scripture, one text which is derived from the old testament book of Exodus & the other from the new testament book of Ephesians.
In case you’re not familiar with the passage of scripture from Exodus allow me to give you a briefing of it. You see Moses was sent by God to deliver the people of God. He was to lead them out of bondage and into the promised land. in the book of Exodus Moses was sent by God to deliver a message to Pharaoh & that message was simply, “let my people go”. You can find that in the 9th chapter of the book of Exodus, In fact in says “let me people go so that they may worship me.”
Let me pump my brakes for a moment just to say that the reason why you’ve been saved, the reason why you’ve been redeemed, the reason why you’ve been set free is so that you can worship HIM. The bible says that we were created to worship Hm.
God did not save you so that you can sit there & look down your nose at other people.
God didn’t save you so you could become judgmental of everybody else
God didn't save your ole sanctified self so you could sit up in a church & hold a position & a front row seat for the next 30 years.
NO God saved you that you could Worship Him!
Just like when you were in the world & you worshipped that man,
you worshipped that woman,
you worshipped the fast money,
you worshipped the drugs & alcohol.
You worshipped that Benz or that Lex bubble
God said I’ve saved you from the penalty of death so that you can worship Me.
WATCH THIS, And then he said If I be lifted up/If i be worshipped I’ll draw all men unto me.
Let me get back on track,
Pharaoh of course did not here Moses appeal to set the people of Israel free from their slavery & this sets the stage for a showdown between the God of Israel & the gods of Egypt. ……. Now a lot happened in this time so I’m going to give you some homework & recommend that you read up on it, You’ll find out when you do that God sent many plagues into the land of Egypt but the final terrible plague that would descend upon the people of Egypt would be the death of the firstborn sons in the land.
In the verses prior to the one we’ve read God commanded his chosen people to sacrifice an unblemished lamb & smear it’s blood over the doorpost of their homes.
When the angel of the Lord would see the blood on the doorpost he would pass over those homes, thus sparing the firstborn sons from God’s wrath. The blood protected them from Gods judgement.
Somebody ought to tell God, “Thank you for the Blood”
And then from that scripture we’ve now jumped over to the NT book of Ephesians.
This book is the Apostle Paul's letter to the believers in Ephesus. The bible tells us that these people were faithful followers of Jesus Christ. An so Paul here is reminding the church of the spiritual blessings that they have received from God. He reminds them & us if you will, that not only does God love us but he choose us, God adopted us into His family & He sees us as holy & without fault. He purchased our freedom with the BLOOD OF HIS SON.
And so it is with that thought church that I want to remind you this morning that church that you are, A BLOODY MESS!
I’m not going to be before you very much long but I need your undivided attention church because I need you to get this.
A BLOODY MESS……..
I know somebody is wondering, Pastor D, what do you mean by A BLOODY MESS? I don’t quite understand where you're going with this, well beloved if you stick with me I promise it’ll all make sense after while.
When we think of the word “bloody” what we typically think of is something or someone my brothers & sisters, that has been covered in BLOOD, AMEN- (hold that thought).
Webster defines the word MESS Lady T,——As something or someone being or looking very dirty or untidy.
Something that is disorderly,
Something that is sloppy
it doesn’t look the way you'd expect it to look
or situation that is complicated or difficult to deal with.
You don’t have to admit to it now, but how many of you have ever looked at somebody & said to yourself or for those of you who are really bold, said to someone else,
“thats a mess”
“you see what she got on, thats a mess”
“You see that hairstyle, thats a mess”
“you know they about to break up right, thats a mess”
"Every time I turn around you in some mess
All she do is keep up mess
In fact we done took it from a mess to a hot mess!
Yawl can act all holy if you want to but I know I’m not the only one.
Understand Beloved that We’re quick to identify a mess when we see it, WHY?
Because A MESS stands out,
When you walk into a place & you see it’s a mess, your first thought is to do what, turn around & walk right back out. Why? Because ewe don’t want to be involved in no mess.
A MESS is not normal.
and sometimes guess what…….. Mess, IT STINKS.
And so here we are church, God spoke to me beloved & He said “teach my people” God said that too many of you when you look at yourselves,
when you look at the man or woman in the mirror you don’t see Him, you don’t see the God in you, all you see is your mess.
You look at your living situation………..IT’S A MESS
You look at your relationship……..IT’S A MESS
Your children are ………A MESS
You look at your finances………. YOUR FINANCES ARE ALL MESSED UP
You look back on your past & all you see is……. A MESS
You try to look ahead, look on the bright side of things but all you see is….. A MESS
But now back in Exodus, we read how the people were instructed to put the lambs blood on the doorpost & it would protect them.
But what was it to protect them from church?….It protected the people of God from The Judgement of God.
How many of you realize that what happened in Exodus foreshadows what would later happen to all of us.
You see they used the blood of the lamb to protect them God’s wrath while in Egypt, Egypt was a mess for God’s people.
Well Beloved, over 2000 years ago Jesus was identified as the Precious Lamb of God. His blood was shed for each & everyone one of us.
The blood of Jesus Christ covers us!
The blood of Jesus Christ it protects us from judgement just as the blood on the doorpost protected the people of Israel from God’s judgement.
And so beloved I stopped by to let somebody know today, that though your life may be a mess, understand that you’ve been bought with a price, you’re covered by the blood of Jesus & that my friends makes you A BLOODY MESS.
You need to tell somebody, I may be a mess, but I’m God’s mess & that makes me A BLOODY MESS!!!!
People of God understand this no matter who you are, or what you’ve done in life you now belong to God. Thats what Paul is teaching us here in Ephesians, You’ve been sealed with a promise.
I’m glad to be covered in His blood.
It’s because of the Blood of Jesus that we access to God.
Because of the Blood of Jesus that we’re forgiven of our sins.
It’s because of the blood of Jesus, because he was a pure sacrifice that we have a clean conscious. Because of Him we can live right & think right.
Because of the Blood of Jesus we are victorious over satan. Rev. 12:11 says, “And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony.”
Bloved, you've been brought with a price & sealed with a promise. God purchased you with the blood of Jesus Christ.
You’ve been forgiven from all unrighteousness.
You no longer have to live with the guilt of sin.
Sin is no longer your master.
Sin is no longer in control
you belong to God now
He purchased you with the BLOOD
HE washed you in the BLOOD
You are covered by the BLOOD
Cleansed from all unrighteousness.
What are you saying Pastor D?
What am I saying People of God is that you might be a mess but you’re a BLOODY MESS.
You may not have your stuff altogether right now, but God is working on your behalf, I heard somebody say He’s leaning in your direction.
Your life may be a little discombobulated right now but you need to know that Jesus can WORK IT OUT.
Don’t you let nobody tell you that you’re not worthy
don’t you let nobody come to you talking about…
“You’re no better than me”
“you’re life is a mess, just like mine”
“you’re stuff stinks, just like mine”
YOU tell them …
“I may be a mess but I’M A BLOODY MESS”
I’VE BEEN BOUGHT WTITH A PRICE
I’VE BEEN REDEEMED!- Let the REDEEMED OF THE ORD SAY……..SO!
NO LONGER DO I SERVE TWO MASTERS
NO LONGER AM I A SLAVE TO SIN
THE BLOOD OF JESUS COVERS ME
THE BLOOD OF JESUS DELIVERS ME
THE BLOOD OF JESUS SAVED ME
I know you knew me back then when I was HOT a mess
My life life was a mess
I was messing around with any & everybody
When I was just plain ole messy
But look at me now, I’ll gladly tell you that I’m a bloody mess
Oh I feel like the woman at the well, that after her encounter with Jesus, she went back & told the people “come meet a man that told me everything I ever did” In other words, He told me about my mess.
I don’t know about you but i’m glad I’m a BLOODY MESS
WHAT CAN WASH AWAY MY SINS, NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD OF JESUS, WHAT CAN MAKE ME WHOLE AGAIN, NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD OF JESUS.
THERES POWER IN THE BLOOD
HEALING POWER, IN THE BLOOD
SAVING POWER IN THE BLOOD
DELIVERING POWER IN THE BLOOD
BECAUSE OF THE BLOOD OF JESUS WE CAN BOLDLY GO TO MERCY SEAT OF GOD.
THE BLOOD THAT GIVES ME STRENGTH FROM DAY TO DAY, IT SHALL NEVER, NEVER, NEVER LOSE ITS POWER.
I heard somebody say, how can a brown cow, eat green grass & give you white milk, but God’s chemical laboratory of redemption, took my black soul, dipped in red blood & I came out white as snow.
Thats the type of God, that I serve.
He can take a messed up situation, cover it in His blood…AND IT BECOMES A BLOODY MESS
and don’t you know, that the bible says if anyone be in Christ he is a new creature, the old is gone, all things become new.
Since I’ve met Jesus, I’m A BLOODY MESS…

THE SAME BLOOD THAT CAME GUSHING OUT OF HIS SIDE WHEN THEY PIERCED HIM, THAT SAME BLOOD COVERS ME. AND I’m A BLOODY MESS
THE SAME BLOOD THAT CAME RUNNING DOWN HIS HANDS & RUNNING DOWN HIS FEET, THAT SAME BLOOD COVERS ME. AND I’m A BLOODY MESS
