Galatians 2:18-20New Living Translation (NLT)
18 Rather, I am a sinner if I rebuild the old system of law I already tore down. 19 For when I tried to keep the law, it condemned me. So I died to the law—I stopped trying to meet all its requirements—so that I might live for God. 20 My old self has been crucified with Christ.[a] It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For, if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there would be no need for Christ to die.
Intro: I don’t do scary movies. You ever watched a zombie movie, or a vampire movie, or anything that’s like the living dead. These creatures are driven by some outside force, like for zombies is brains, for vampires its blood. I remember watching movies as a kid and wondering why didn’t they just run from the zombies.
Well for the next couple of weeks I want to talk about being the living dead.
1. The living dead were once dead, but acted on outside force now live forever. That’s just like me and you. We were once dead in our transgressions,
Romans 6 for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life thru Christ Jesus.
Eph 2 says you were once dead in your transgressions, God’s love acted as a sacrifice and died in our place so that we would live eternally.
We are all in fact dead living until we find Jesus, we are zombies of the earth driven by our carnal desires, like the zombies in those old movies but instead of crying out BRAINS we shouted pleasure, selfishness and our steps where all based out of that, but praise Jesus you have been set free from that to new life.
.Our job is to search out Jesus with the same passion and desire that we once chased after our former passions with.
2. Have you ever thought about where you came from in this life?
As you have advanced in life, and you remember when you first got married, or when you were a kid and we kind of romantise those times. But I don’t. Hotel stories
In our faith life we do that too. We still live bound, we try to live our lives based around laws that Jesus came to not abolish but fulfill.
We are no longer bound to a list of rules, but we are now bind ourselves to the person of Jesus and we seek out to accomplish all he has laid out before us.
3. Only is dying to self to we experience true freedom.
Because we give up control of those things that we weren’t in control of to begin with,
WE SUBMIT OUR WILL TO HIS WILL, OUR HOPE AND TRUST IS IN HIM BECAUSE HE IS OUR WHERE OUR HOPE LIVES.
