Selling Yourself into Slavery?
Joshua 9:1-8
To make yourself a slave, you must give into
1. Dread & Despair vs 3
women making themselves a slave to a man that uses them
men making themselves a slave to a job,
because they think they can’t get a better one
preachers afraid they’ll lose their job.
So they compromise the Gospel
Peer pressure Afraid they won’t fit in (smoking, drinking, sex, drugs,)
2. Deception & Deceit vs 4
"Lie" - "...a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive..."
Deceit = concealment, or distortion of the truth for the purpose of
misleading: duplicity: fraud
lying to themselves
family
To God
Prov 12:22 Lying lips [are] abomination to the LORD: but they that
deal truly [are] his delight.
3. Danger & Difficulty vs 6a
They went to Joshua, and lied to his face.
Wouldn’t that be enough to kill them?
They Deceived him,
Made him look foolish.
18 And the children of Israel smote them not, because the princes
of the congregation had sworn unto them by the LORD God of
Israel. And all the congregation murmured against the princes.
Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers,
and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall
have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone:
which is the second death.
