VIII. MAIN BODY:
Psalms 40:17 [As for me] I am poor and needy, yet the Lord takes thought {and} plans for me. You are my Help and my Deliverer. O my God, do not tarry!
A. I am poor of worldly wealth and needy in spirit.
"[As for me] I am poor and needy, yet the Lord takes thought {and} plans for me."
Poor came from the Hebrew word:"aniy" meaning depressed, afflicted, humble, lowly, needy, poor.
Needy came from the Hebrew word:"ebyon" meaning sense of want, destitute, beggar, needy, poor man
2 Corinthians 8:9 For you are becoming progressively acquainted with {and} recognizing more strongly {and} clearly the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ (His kindness, His gracious generosity, His undeserved favor and spiritual blessing), [in] that though He was [so very] rich, yet for your sakes He became [so very] poor, in order that by His poverty you might become enriched (abundantly supplied).
James 2:5 Listen, my beloved brethren: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith {and} in their position as believers and to inherit the kingdom which He has promised to those who love Him?
Matthew 8:20 And Jesus replied to him, Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have lodging places, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.
Psalms 69:33 For the Lord hears the poor {and} needy and despises not His prisoners (His miserable and wounded ones).
Isaiah 41:17 The poor and needy are seeking water when there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. I the Lord will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.
Being poor in the eyes of this world means someone's lack the luxuries, you don't own many things, you don't own a car, you don't own a large house, what you have are bare essentials that keeps you going just to survive. But being rich in GOD's eyes, that even if you don't own these conveniences in life, or luxuries you can still praise and worship the LORD GOD and thank Him everyday for all your needs are met by His Grace.
When people are poor of these world's materials that are not needed in Heaven, they pray to GOD more frequently because they see GOD as providing for them, that's why their faith is always exercised, thus making it strong.
Deuteronomy 31:20 For when I have brought them into the land which I swore to their fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey, and they have eaten and filled themselves and become fat, then they will turn to other gods and serve them, and despise {and} scorn Me and break My covenant.
Success, prosperity, having it all, being rich in this world's material wealth is the ultimate test if people will still follow and pray to GOD, and not poverty. Why? Because the love of money of that person will increase because he can see a lot of money, but when there's scarcity of money or wealth, the tendency of that person is to pray for GOD to provide.
1 Timothy 6:6 [And it is, indeed, a source of immense profit, for] godliness accompanied with contentment (that contentment which is a sense of inward sufficiency) is great {and} abundant gain.
1 Timothy 6:7 For we brought nothing into the world, and {obviously} we cannot take anything out of the world;
1 Timothy 6:8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we shall be content (satisfied).
1 Timothy 6:9 But those who crave to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish (useless, godless) and hurtful desires that plunge men into ruin {and} destruction and miserable perishing.
1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all evils; it is through this craving that some have been led astray {and} have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves through with many acute [mental] pangs.
Deuteronomy 8:17 And beware lest you say in your [mind and] heart, My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.
Deuteronomy 8:18 But you shall [earnestly] remember the Lord your God, for it is He Who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
Deuteronomy 8:19 And if you forget the Lord your God and walk after other gods and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish.
Luke 12:15 And He said to them, Guard yourselves and keep free from all covetousness (the immoderate desire for wealth, the greedy longing to have more); for a man’s life does not consist in and is not derived from possessing overflowing abundance or that which is over and above his needs.
We used to own a huge house with lots of furnitures on it, but it was burned by fire, that huge house became our idol before because we became complacent and that huge house became our refuge and strength and not the LORD GOD any more.
Romans 8:28 We are assured {and} know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together {and} are [fitting into a plan] for good to {and} for those who love God and are called according to [His] design {and} purpose.
It was fitting that it should be burned because our trust came back to GOD that everyday GOD is our Provider and we pray for Him to provide for our needs and wants, and we can't become complacent because there's no huge house to look into, but our house is so small that only three of us can fit into it, and no one else, but we like this house that we live in, since it's provided by the LORD GOD to us, we have time to pray and ask for all the things in life. We seek and prioritize GOD'S Kingdom and His righteousness.
Matt 6:33 But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.
You see it's a matter of perspective of where your heart is focused? On your physical or spiritual treasure.
Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Luke 12:34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
The more you have that thing in your life, the more will you love it. The more relationship or the more of GOD you have in your life, the more you will worship GOD. The more money you have and you can see it physically, the more you will love it. There's nothing wrong being rich, but there's something wrong on whom you love. Your money or the people? Your money or GOD?
Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by {and} be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (deceitful riches, money, possessions, or whatever is trusted in).
Luke 16:13 No servant is able to serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by {and} be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (riches, or anything in which you trust and on which you rely).
If you are rich, then it's not sinful but ask yourself this question, rich man or rich woman. Are you able to share your wealth with others? Can you tithe on your gross? or tithe on your net? If you tithe on your gross, then that's neat, if you tithe on your net, then that's gross. Because we are made to become channels of blessing not a storage of blessing.
Psalms 21:6 For You make him to be blessed {and} a blessing forever; You make him exceedingly glad with the joy of Your presence.
Psalms 21:7 For the king trusts, relies on, {and} is confident in the Lord, and through the mercy {and} steadfast love of the Most High he will never be moved.
Proverbs 16:8 Better is a little with righteousness (uprightness in every area and relation and right standing with God) than great revenues with injustice.
Still the rich people in GOD's eyes lack one thing, they are always short of GOD, more of money, or rich in money but lacking in GOD. The rich young ruler here have been offered by the LORD JESUS the greatest offer a man can ever have in this world, that is to become a disciple of the LORD JESUS, and yet the rich young ruler, turned his back away from it all and embrace his riches instead.
Luke 18:22 And when Jesus heard it, He said to him, One thing you still lack. Sell everything that you have and divide [the money] among the poor, and you will have [rich] treasure in heaven; and come back [and] follow Me [become My disciple, join My party, and accompany Me].
Luke 18:23 But when he heard this, he became distressed {and} very sorrowful, for he was rich--exceedingly so.
Luke 18:24 Jesus, observing him, said, How difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!
Luke 18:25 For it is easier for a camel to enter through a needle's eye than [for] a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
Luke 18:26 And those who heard it said, Then who can be saved?
B. The LORD GOD is my Help and my Deliverer.
"You are my Help and my Deliverer. O my God, do not tarry!"
Tarrying came from the Hebrew word:"achar" meaning to loiter, be behind, defer, hinder, be late, stay.
Acknowledge the LORD's Presence in your lives and tell Him not to delay anymore what you have requested. You can see how fast the LORD GOD will answer our prayers, and He's willing and waiting to give us the answer that will be favorable to us.
Waiting plays a great role in praying. For example, when we make requests from men, we usually wait but of course, the promises of men are unreliable. But GOD is different because when we wait upon Him, it will not be a waste. We are told to wait and expect GOD's answers to our problems when we pray GOD always has the answers but He is not over riding circumstances but wanted His answers to us without disrupting the law of nature. So He fixes everything so that our prayers will pass through smoothly and we will receive it just at the right time. Only fear disables us from hearing and receiving from GOD what we prayed for through grace by faith.
Psalms 37:34 Wait for {and} expect the Lord and keep {and} heed His way, and He will exalt you to inherit the land; [in the end] when the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.
Psalms 39:7 And now, Lord, what do I wait for {and} expect? My hope {and} expectation are in You.
Psalms 40:1 I WAITED patiently {and} expectantly for the Lord; and He inclined to me and heard my cry.
Illustration: This is the reply of GOD to me when I prayed for wisdom. He revealed through His WORDS that what is stopping me from getting my answers to my prayers is fear. So I prayed for more faith, studied more of JESUS, the more I know Him, the more I realize that all things are already in me, it only needs manifestation.
Isaiah 41:10 Fear not [there is nothing to fear], for I am with you; do not look around you in terror {and} be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen {and} harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you; yes, I will hold you up {and} retain you with My [victorious] right hand of rightness {and} justice.
Isaiah 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned {or} scorched, nor will the flame kindle upon you.
2 Peter 1:3 For His divine power has bestowed upon us all things that [are requisite and suited] to life and godliness, through the [full, personal] knowledge of Him Who called us by {and} to His own glory and excellence (virtue).
Take note JESUS is Both. He is our Hope and Expectation, and our hope and expectation is in Him.
IX. CONCLUSION:
Praise, worship, glorify, adore, bless, honor, acknowledge and thank You very much LORD JESUS for You are my Hope, my Expectation, the Answer to my prayers, and the One who takes care of me.
HALLELUJAH!!
