Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."
When I think about mentors and other people that inspire me and that I look up to, I am often caught up in the idea that i could never accomplish what they have accomplished in their lives. Perhaps they've written best selling books; perhaps they speak with confidence or perhaps they pastor a mega-church. Maybe, just maybe, they seem to have everything working for them and they look like they have it all together.
I imagine there is a possibility that Joshua felt like he had some pretty big shoes to fill with Moses passing away and Joshua being put in charge. I mean, after all, Moses is the one who came to Egypt and performed several signs before Pharaoh. Moses is the one who led the people of Israel out of Egypt. Moses is the one who led the people across the Red Sea. Moses is the one who went before God and was given the Ten Commandments on Tablets. Moses accomplishments were vast.
Yet, comparison always misses the mark of the Gospel according to Joshua. That Gospel is this: Be strong because God is your strength, be courageous because God is for you and don't ever be afraid because no matter what happens, God is with you.
Always remember that.
