Series: Jesus Is Better- The Better Priest [#8]

HE IS ABLE

Hebrews 7:23-28

Introduction:

I want each of you to consider the question, “What situation, person, or relationship is the most impossible thing to work out in your life”? Do you think you are able to fix it? Do you think God is able to fix it? I know we all say, “I’ll let God take care of it”; but do you? When we don’t allow God to take care of it, we are really saying, “God, I don’t think you can handle it”.

Hebrews 7:23-25a (NIV)

“Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him.”

He is able…

1. To save completely.

What Jesus did is 100%. Jesus is always serving us as our High Priest. Because Jesus lives forever, we are not dependent upon anyone else. There is nothing left for Jesus to do when it comes to your salvation.

Hebrews 7:25b (NIV)

“Because he always lives to intercede for them.”

He is able…

2. To intercede for us.

Jesus Christ has made it His continual responsibility to be the bridge between us and God the Father. There is only one way for you and I to go to God the Father, and that is through Jesus.

Hebrews 7:26-28 (NIV)

“Such a high priest meets our need--one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.”

He is able…

3. To meet our needs.

What is it that you need? Now pay attention, I said needs and not wants. You may ask, “Then why are there Christians who are hungry or living in a dump”? Because, this is not talking about physical needs; but spiritual needs. Now don’t get me wrong, God takes care of our physical needs as well; but that doesn’t really matter compared to our spiritual needs.

Our Savior is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, and is exalted above all others. Jesus became one of us so that He could save us. No other person could do this.

Conclusion:

Jesus is the better Priest. He serves continually as our intercessor. Jesus and Jesus alone deserves our praise.
