QUALIFIED To DECIDE-II—1Corinthians 6:1-11
OR Qualified To Rectify
Attention:
Marriage Required
Ben had applied for his first major job position & when he returned home, his Dad asked how the interview went.
“Pretty well, I think,” replied Ben, “But if I go to work there I won't get a vacation until I'm married.”
His Dad & Mom looked at each other puzzled, because had never heard of such a thing. They knew Ben didn’t have a girlfriend, & marriage was not even on his radar. His Dad asked him, “Is that what they told you?”
“Well, No,” replied Ben, “But right on the application it said 'Vacation time may not be taken until you've had your First Anniversary.’”
Ben had some questionable qualification issues.
The mature Church birthed & given life thru Christ Jesus should have no such questionably disqualifying issues!
Paul rebuked the Corinthian Christians because they sought out & trusted secular sources to rectify personal grievances among themselves.
‘Grievance’—‘A real or imagined wrong or other cause for complaint or protest, especially unfair treatment.’
‘Rectify’—‘To put(something) right; To correct.’
The Church & Christians are uniquely fitted for properly rectifying personal grievances among themselves.
How/When are Christians fit for rectifying personal grievances?

DESTINY(:2a & :3a)
Explanation:(:2a & :3a) Destiny for Eternal Decision
:2a—“Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
:3a—“Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life?”
Paul’s surprise & anger(:1) is justified because in God’s scheme of things, “the saints will judge the world” & “angels.”
They are informed that one day when the world is judged in finality, by God, that Christians will be an integral part of that judgment process.
*They that comprise the true church(Christians--Brothers & sisters in Christ--Saints--Children of God) are holy, operate by & in holiness, & by virtue of that fact, are obviously competent to make officially & decisively ‘just’ decisions regarding right vs. wrong in “matters” of this earthly life, in holiness.
Christians will also “judge angels” one day. That fact secures our capability & qualification of judging matters of “this life.”
Why would Christians “judge angels” given that angels are not earthly creatures? This must mean that the chief matters of concern, for which Christians are destined, extend far beyond their current physical observations & life on earth. cf.—Eph. 6:11-12...
Eph. 6:11-12—“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh & blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
2Pet. 2:4—“For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell & delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;”
Jude :6, 14-15—“And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day;”.....“Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, & of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”—You & I will be involved in some aspect of God’s judgment, as those who are committed to seeing His righteous & perfect discernment fulfilled.
Christians are destined for greatness which God bestows upon them, & as such they are destined for great decisions! “Know”[See : 3, 9, 6, 15, 16, 19]—eidw/oida—Perfect Active Indicative 2nd Plural—1) To see—1a) To perceive with the eyes, 1b) To perceive by any of the senses, 1c) To perceive, notice, discern, discover, 1d) To see; 2) To know—2a) To know of anything, 2b) To know, i.e. Get knowledge of, understand, perceive—. Eidw/oida denotes to see with the mind's eye, signifies a clear & purely mental perception. Strong—a primary verb; used only in certain past tenses, the others being borrowed from the equivalent optanomai & oraw; properly--To see(literally or figuratively); by implication(in the perf. only)--To know.
“Saints”(See :1)—agiov—Adj.—1) Most holy thing, a saint. Agiov has probably as its fundamental meaning separation, i.e., from the world to God's service. This separation, however, is not chiefly external, it is rather a separation from evil & defilement. The moral signification of the word is therefore the prominent one. This word, rare & of neutral meaning in classical Greek, has been developed in meaning, so that it expresses the full N.T. conception of holiness as no other does. Strong—sacred(physically, pure, morally blameless or religious, ceremonially, consecrated).
“Judge”(See :2, 3)—krinw—Future Active Indicative 1st Plural—1) To separate, put asunder, to pick out, select, choose; 2) To approve, esteem, to prefer; 3) To be of opinion, deem, think, to be of opinion; 4) To determine, resolve, decree; 5) To judge—5a) To pronounce an opinion concerning right & wrong—5a1) To be judged, i.e. summoned to trial that one's case may be examined & judgment passed upon it, 5b) To pronounce judgment, to subject to censure—5b1) of those who act the part of judges or arbiters in matters of common life, or pass judgment on the deeds & words of others; 6) To rule, govern—6a) To preside over with the power of giving judicial decisions, because it was the prerogative of kings & rulers to pass judgment; 7) To contend together, of warriors & combatants—7a) To dispute, 7b) in a forensic sense—7b1) To go to law, have suit at law. Strong—properly--To distinguish, i.e. Decide(mentally or judicially); by implication--To try, condemn, punish.
“World”—kosmov—Noun Masc.—1) An apt & harmonious arrangement or constitution, order, government; 2) Ornament, decoration, adornment, i.e. The arrangement of the stars, 'the heavenly hosts', as the ornament of the heavens. 1Pe 3:3; 3) The world, the universe; 4) The circle of the earth, the earth; 5) The inhabitants of the earth, men, the human family; 6) The ungodly multitude; the whole mass of men alienated from God, & therefore hostile to the cause of Christ; 7) World affairs, the aggregate of things earthly—7a) The whole circle of earthly goods, endowments riches, advantages, pleasures, etc, which although hollow & frail & fleeting, stir desire, seduce from God & are obstacles to the cause of Christ; 8) Any aggregate or general collection of particulars of any sort. Aiwn is usually better expressed by age, it is the world at a given time, a particular period in the world's history. Kosmov has very frequently an unfavorable meaning, denoting the inhabitants of the world, mankind in general, as opposed to God. Strong—Orderly arrangement, i.e. Decoration; by implication--The world(in a wide or narrow sense, including its inhabitants, literally or figuratively -(morally)-). RWP—“The whole cosmos of men, including Gentiles, the whole human race.”
“Angels”—aggelov—Noun Masc.—1) A messenger, envoy, one who is sent, an angel, a messenger from God. Strong—from aggellw[probably derived from agw-(to lead; bring, drive, go, pass(time), or induce)-; compare agelh-(a drove)-(to bring tidings); A messenger; especially--An "angel"; by implication--A pastor.
Argumentation:
Lam. 1:7-11—“In the days of her affliction & roaming, Jerusalem remembers all her pleasant things That she had in the days of old. When her people fell into the hand of the enemy, With no one to help her, The adversaries saw her And mocked at her downfall. Jerusalem has sinned gravely, Therefore she has become vile. All who honored her despise her Because they have seen her nakedness; Yes, she sighs & turns away. Her uncleanness is in her skirts; She did not consider her destiny; Therefore her collapse was awesome; She had no comforter. O LORD, behold my affliction, For the enemy is exalted!” The adversary has spread his hand Over all her pleasant things; For she has seen the nations enter her sanctuary, Those whom You commanded Not to enter Your assembly. All her people sigh, They seek bread; They have given their valuables for food to restore life. “See, O LORD, & consider, For I am scorned.”
Mat. 28:18—“And Jesus came & spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven & on earth.”
And the Church must answer to that authority!
Rev. 2:26-29—-(to Thyatira)-—“And he who overcomes, & keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations--‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’--as I also have received from My Father; “& I will give him the morning star. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’
Rev. 3:20-22—-(to Laodicea)-“Behold, I stand at the door & knock. If anyone hears My voice & opens the door, I will come in to him & dine with him, & he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame & sat down with My Father on His throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’”
Mat. 19:28—“So Jesus said to them-(His 12 disciples, the 12)-, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”
Rev. 20:1-6—“Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit & a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil & Satan, & bound him for a thousand years; & he cast him into the bottomless pit, & shut him up, & set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while. And I saw thrones, & they sat on them, & judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus & for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, & had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived & reigned with Christ for a thousand years. But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed & holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God & of Christ, & shall reign with Him a thousand years.”
Lk. 2:33-35—“And Joseph & His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him-(Jesus)-. Then Simeon blessed them, & said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall & rising of many in Israel, & for a sign which will be spoken against “(yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”
1Pet. 2:7-8—“Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone,” & “A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense.” They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.”
Heb. 9:27, 28—“And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.”
1Pet. 1:3-12—“Blessed be the God & Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible & undefiled & that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, & glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible & full of glory, receiving the end of your faith--the salvation of your souls. Of this salvation the prophets have inquired & searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ & the glories that would follow. To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven--things which angels desire to look into.”
Mat. 24:42-47—“Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched & not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Who then is a faithful & wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing. Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods.”
1Pet. 1:17--2:3—“And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish & without spot. He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead & gave Him glory, so that your faith & hope are in God. Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives & abides forever, because “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, But the word of the LORD endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you. Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, & all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.”
Mat. 16:13-19—“When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
Ours is a huge & heady responsibility on the part of the witness...
Mat. 18:15-20—“Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’ And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector. “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you-(plural)- bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you-(plural)- loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you that if two of you[plural] agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”
Likewise, ours is a huge & heady responsibility on the part of our corporate witness...

The ancient Egyptians used willow bark as a remedy for aches & pains. Medicines made from willow & other salicylate-rich plants appear in clay tablets from ancient Sumer as well as the Ebers Papyrus from ancient Egypt. Hippocrates, the Greek physician who lived from about 460 to 377 B.C., wrote that willow leaves & bark relieved pain & fevers.
But it wasn't until many hundreds of years later that people began attempting to isolate the key ingredients of the medicine that would become part of the measure of Western medicine in classical antiquity & the Middle Ages. Willow bark extract became recognized for its specific effects on fever, pain & inflammation in the mid-eighteenth century. By the 1800s pharmacists were experimenting with & prescribing a variety of chemicals related to salicylic acid, the active component of willow extract. Spiraea is a biological genus of shrubs that includes natural sources of the drug's key ingredient: salicylic acid.
In 1853, chemist Charles Frédéric Gerhardt treated acetyl chloride with sodium salicylate to produce acetylsalicylic acid for the first time. In the latter half of the 1800s, other academic chemists established the compound's chemical structure & devised more efficient methods of synthesis. In 1897, scientists at a drug & dye firm began investigating acetylsalicylic acid as a less-irritating replacement for standard common salicylate medicines, & identified a new way to synthesize it. By 1899, the German company, Bayer dubbed this drug by it’s brand name, ’Aspirin’ & began selling it around the world/The humble willow tree was destined to provide medicine for man/DESTINY
