VIII. MAIN BODY:
Married life is represented by Abram and Sarai they're still not converted people that have turned into Abraham and Sarah. These 3 sins are proned to be committed by married couples. Stay away and guard against them. You can't say you are strong enough because even the father of faith has committed all of these.
A. Worldliness
"12:10 Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down into Egypt to live temporarily, for the famine in the land was oppressive (intense and grievous)."
Isaiah 31:1 (Amplified Bible)
31:1 WOE TO those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses and trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they look not to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek and consult the Lord!
1 John 2:15 (Amplified Bible)
2:15 Do not love or cherish the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him.
James 4:4 (Amplified Bible)
4:4 You [are like] unfaithful wives [having illicit love affairs with the world and breaking your marriage vow to God]! Do you not know that being the world’s friend is being God’s enemy? So whoever chooses to be a friend of the world takes his stand as an enemy of God.
Romans 12:2 (Amplified Bible)
12:2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].
Our circumstances must never dictate who we are, but the Bible declares who we are.
Ephesians 2:6 (Amplified Bible)
2:6 And He raised us up together with Him and made us sit down together [giving us joint seating with Him] in the heavenly sphere [by virtue of our being] in Christ Jesus (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
For example:
1. Financial needs - we tend to skip church services, especially during Sundays because we reason out that we will receive double pay or overtime pay for our work. Husbands usually go abroad leaving their family away from them. If we must choose between money and relationship, choose relationship. We MUST not do this. We need to strengthen more our tithes and offering to the LORD
Philippians 4:19 (Amplified Bible)
4:19 And my God will liberally supply (fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
2. Healing - we go to quack doctors, or use our money to be cured by different doctors. Our Healer is JESUS, first and foremost, we come to JESUS daily for our healing everyday.
Isaiah 53:5 (Amplified Bible)
53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.
1 Peter 2:24 (Amplified Bible)
2:24 He personally bore our sins in His [own] body on the tree [as on an altar and offered Himself on it], that we might die (cease to exist) to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.
Our tendencies when we have problems like these, we adapt worldly solutions not what the Bible have advised to do so.
B. Fear
"12:11 And when he was about to enter into Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, I know that you are beautiful to behold.
12:12 So when the Egyptians see you, they will say, This is his wife; and they will kill me, but they will let you live."
Genesis 15:1 (Amplified Bible)
15:1 AFTER THESE things, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram, I am your Shield, your abundant compensation, and your reward shall be exceedingly great.
1 Peter 3:14 (Amplified Bible)
3:14 But even in case you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, [you are] blessed (happy, to be envied). Do not dread or be afraid of their threats, nor be disturbed [by their opposition].
1 John 4:18 (Amplified Bible)
4:18 There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fear brings with it the thought of punishment, and [so] he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love [is not yet grown into love’s complete perfection].
Hebrews 2:15 (Amplified Bible)
2:15 And also that He might deliver and completely set free all those who through the [haunting] fear of death were held in bondage throughout the whole course of their lives.
You can't move in faith if you move in fear and vice-versa. It's like a see-saw, if faith is up, then fear is down; if fear is up, then faith is down.
Our sin in this life, is no more of the sinful nature, it's done away with, but lack of faith.
James 4:17 (Amplified Bible)
4:17 So any person who knows what is right to do but does not do it, to him it is sin.
C. Lie
"12:13 Say, I beg of you, that you are my sister, so that it may go well with me for your sake and my life will be spared because of you."
Micah 7:2 (Amplified Bible)
7:2 The godly man has perished from the earth, and there is none upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood; each hunts his brother with a net.
Colossians 3:9 (Amplified Bible)
3:9 Do not lie to one another, for you have stripped off the old (unregenerate) self with its evil practices,
1 John 2:21 (Amplified Bible)
2:21 I write to you not because you are ignorant and do not perceive and know the Truth, but because you do perceive and know it, and [know positively] that nothing false (no deception, no lie) is of the Truth.
Romans 1:25 (Amplified Bible)
1:25 Because they exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, Who is blessed forever! Amen (so be it).
Lie is half-truth. Sarai is Abram's half-sister but also her wife. Abram should have told the truth in the first place without fear that Sarai is both her sister and her wife.
IX. CONCLUSION:
Praise, worship and thank You very much LORD JESUS, for You have always warned us to guard our married lives with these 3 sins and we're protected from worldliness, fear and lies because of You are the Head of our family in this world and in the worlds to come.
