Are You Just Like Elijah?
James 5:17 & 18
1. He's Afraid. 1 Kings 19:3
like passions. He is just like us. basic human nature hasn't
changed since the dawn of man
Ps 27:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of
whom shall I be afraid?
Ps 54:3 What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. 4 In God I will
praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear
what flesh can do unto me
2. He's Alone (his servant) 19:3
Ps 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou [art] with me;
Rom 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels,
nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things
to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature,
shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in
Christ Jesus our Lord.
3. He's Agonizing. 19:4
Rom 12:2- And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed
by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that
good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
4. He's Arrogant. 19:10
1 Sam 2:3 Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come
out of your mouth: for the LORD [is] a God of knowledge,
and by him actions are weighed.
5. He's Abased [self]-[pity]. 19:10 & 14 no self-esteem, confidence
He focused on who and what was against him instead of Who was
with and for him.
Rom 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us,
who can be against us?
6. He's Angled
He had an [unbalanced] view of things he focused on the negative and
not on the positive. We can focus so much on present problems till
it gets all out of proportion.
We need to put everything aside and just worship Jesus.
Pro 17:22 - A merry heart doeth good [like] a medicine: but a
broken spirit drieth the bones.
7. He's All In
Elijah simply [shut down] on God temporarily.
Elijah, like us, struggled with his feelings even after this comforting
message from God. So God confronted Elijah's emotions and
commanded action. He told Elijah what to do next and informed
him that part of his loneliness was based on ignorance: 7,000
others in Israel were still faithful to God.
