JESUS APPEARS TO HIS DISCIPLES

John 20:

19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.

21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

Notice this was after Christ resurrection.

Also note that the same evening after his resurrection.

(1) Jesus appears to them.

The disciples were assembled out of fear of the Jews

They would have been put in jail are killed.

This was a select assembled

Total private only followers of Jesus.

Jesus appeared in the mist of them (he spoke to them Peace be unto you)

(2) This was to calm their fears.

To clear their troubled consciences

Jesus came to communicate good news of the Gospel.

He wanted them to know the he was the true peace.

This was a prelude for their future success.

(3) Jesus then did and exhibit for them (His hands and his side)

Understand this is real what they are looking at and not illusive.

This was to remind them of his love.

What he had bore for them.

The sufferings he had endured for their sakes.

(4) There was a great sensation they had beholding him. ( Then were the disciples glad)

They were founded in knowledge of his word.

All was produced by love .

Now their confidence was at all time high.

(5) Same feeling John had.

John 1: 29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

The Lamb of God in our presents.

He came to remove the sins of the world.

Sinful men should be ready to behold him.

Just looking on him you had that spirit feeling this is him.

(6) Only Christian hope.

Romans 5: 5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
