FIVE PRECIOUS THINGS...........
Today, I want to look at 5 prescious things that are found in the Bible
1. JESUS IS PRECIOUS
1st Peter 2:4-7
To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
This song tells us how prescious Jesus is to us.
Jesus is precious, He is so precious
Jesus is precious to me
He is my Saviour, my Lord and my Master
Jesus is precious to me
When I feel disheartened, forsaken, forgotten,
Jesus is precious to me,
In every condition, He is my physician,
Jesus is precious to me.
He's comfort in sorrow, He's hope for tomorrow,
Jesus is precious to me,
He's all that I prayed for, What more could I ask for?
Jesus is precious to me
It's not earthy treasures, it's not worldly pleasures,
Jesus is precious to me.
And though I prize friendship, and praise God for kinship,
Jesus is precious to me.
Peter emphasizes the word stone,, Jesus is the rock of our salvation
Jesus is our cornerstone
Jesus was rejected by men,
(illustration) A young woman teacher with obvious liberal tendencies explains to her class of small children that she is an atheist. She asks her class if they are atheists too. Not really knowing what atheism is but wanting to be like their teacher, their hands explode into the air like fleshy fireworks.
There is, however, one exception. A beautiful girl named Lucy has not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different. "Because I'm not an atheist."
Then, asks the teacher, what are you?
"I'm a Christian." says Lucy.
The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks Lucy why she is a Christian. "Well, I was brought up knowing and loving Jesus. My mom is a Christian, and my dad is a Christian, so I am a Christian."
The teacher is now agitated. "That's no reason," she says forcefully. "What if your mom was a moron, and your dad was a moron. What would you be then?" :
A pause, and a smile. "Then," says Lucy, "I'd be an atheist."
1st John 2:22-23 22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.
2. The trial of our faith is precious..
1st Peter 1:7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes rthough it is tested by sfire—may be found to result in tpraise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Our faith in Jesus is prescious, becasue without faith, it is impossible to please God.
3. The blood of Jesus is precious
1st Peter 1;18-19 knowing that you rwere ransomed from sthe futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but twith the precious blood of Christ, like that of ua lamb vwithout blemish or spot.
Peter realized, that Jesus' blood was prescious. We sing the sont, There is power in the blood of Jesus.
The bible tells us, in Hebrews 9:2 that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins.
The blood of Jesus, covers all sins.
No true believer would ever deny the importance of the blood of Jesus, for atonement for our sins
Jesus' blood is the central theme of the entire word of God.
Rev. 7:14 tells us ..I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
The bible teaches us that te blood of Jesus is the only way to have forgiveness of our sins.
Is Jesus' blood prescious to you today? A lot of people today , have the same wicked attitude, and the unbelievers who viewed Jesus Christ on the cross.
Matthew 27:39-44 39 And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads 40 and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” 41 So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, 42 “He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43 He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.
The unbelievers challenged the diety of Jesus then , just as some still do today. Some still mock Him today.
4. Jesus' promises are precious
2nd Peter 1:4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
( illustration) two brothers were playing, the older brother got an egg, and told the younger one that if he would let him break the egg over his head, that he would let him return the favor, and break on over his head. The younger one said, okay , if you promise to let me break one over your head. The older brother promised, so he then proceeded to break an egg over the young ones head. The young one said, okay, it is my time to break one over your head. The older one said, no way. The younger one said, but your promised. The older brother said,, I lied.
When Jesus makes a promise, He doesn't lie. He keeps His word.
2nd Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish , but that all should come to repentance.
Someone once said, that they had counted over 7000 promises in the BIble.
These are precious promises.
5. Our redemption is precious
Psalm 49:8 (For the redemption of their soul is precious , and it ceaseth for ever:)
Our redemption is precious
(illustration) story of a person who had to buy his own thing he created...
Once a dad gave his son a gift on his birthday. It was a do-it-yourself little boat. The young boy spent many hours building it into a beautiful little sailboat, crafting it down to the finest detail. He then took it to a nearby river to sail it. He played with it each day after school. One day, when he put it in the water to play, an unexpected wind moved it away from him very quickly. Though he chased it along the bank, he couldn't keep up with it. The strong wind and current carried the boat far away. The heartbroken boy knew how hard he would have to work to build another sailboat.
Farther down the river, a man found the little boat, took it to town, and sold it to a shopkeeper. Few days later, as the boy was walking through town, he noticed a boat in a store window. When he went near, it looked exactly like his lost boat. Entering the store, looking at it closely, he told the owner that the boat belonged to him. It had his own little marks on it, but he couldn't prove to the shopkeeper that the boat was his. The man told him the only way he could get the boat was to buy it. The boy wanted it back so badly that he did exactly that. As he took the boat from the hand of the shopkeeper, he looked at it and said,
"Little boat, now you're twice mine! Once I made you and now I bought you."
In the same way, we all are like this little boat. God created us, fearfully and wonderfully by His hand. But we sinned against God and lost our way into Satan’s authority. But God was ready to take us back by paying a ransom with His only Son’s blood. So He sent His only Son, Jesus, to earth to shed His precious blood to pay the penalty of our sins, to die in our stead to redeem us and reunite us with Him.
These 5 things are prescious
1. JESUS
2. TRIAL OF OUR FAITH
3. JESUS' BLOOD
4.JESUS' PROMISES ARE PRESCIOUS
5. OUR REDEMPTION IS PRESCIOUS
