1. To express Paul's affection for the Philippian believers
2. To thank them for their gift
3. To encourage them to a lifestyle of unity, holiness and joy
D. To whom written: Philippian believers
E. Main theme: JESUS CHRIST
VIII. MAIN BODY:
Philippians 1:12 (Amplified Bible)
Now I want you to know and continue to rest assured, brethren, that what [has happened] to me [this imprisonment] has actually only served to advance and give a renewed impetus to the [spreading of the] good news (the Gospel).

But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;

The people around Paul looked at his imprisonment as a negative thing but Apostle Paul looked at it as a positive thing because even though he was imprisoned because of defending the gospel, the WORD of GOD can't be stopped, and can't be imprisoned. But the gospel seeks imprisoned heart to let loose. GOD looked at it as a way for His Glory to be seen through Paul's life. Let's agree with GOD, let's look on it as a way for GOD's glory to be revealed.
John 16:2 (Amplified Bible)
They will put you out of (expel you from) the synagogues; but an hour is coming when whoever kills you will think and claim that he has offered service to God.
B. It only advanced the gospel

The gospel is unstoppable. Why? Because JESUS CHRIST is the Gospel.

Mark 16:16 (Amplified Bible)

Gospel or Good News is the only news that can save people because it preaches and proclaims JESUS CHRIST as the Only Savior and Only LORD. Being ashamed of it, is that you made your self a part of the problem not the solution.
Why is Paul so bold like this in declaring this truth? Because his first teacher was Stephen before the LORD, he saw how Stephen died.
Acts 6:8 (Amplified Bible)
Now Stephen, full of grace (divine blessing and favor) and power (strength and ability) worked great wonders and signs (miracles) among the people.
Acts 7:59-60 (Amplified Bible)
And while they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, Lord Jesus, receive and accept and welcome my spirit!
And falling on his knees, he cried out loudly, Lord, fix not this sin upon them [lay it not to their charge]! And when he had said this, he fell asleep [in death].
Stephen, never mentioned in the bible, maybe saw how JESUS CHRIST died.
