The Spirit of Peace
Galatians 5:17-26
The Fruit of the Spirit produces in us the character of the Lord Jesus Christ, and when people come in contact with us they see the Christ in us.
Vs.24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts
“if we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit” Vs.25
Point: These nine graces are a product of walking in the Spirit.
Key: They prevent my flesh from doing what it wants to do
Romans 8:8 so then they that are in the flesh cannot please God
• Love
1 Cor. 13:1-2 If we have not love we are nothing
We are told that love fulfils the law
• Joy
Nehemiah tells us the joy of the LORD is our strength. Neh. 8:10
Point: This joy is not based upon what happens in our life, but based upon what has already happened in Christ Jesus.
The Spirit of Peace
See: Luke 2:14 Peace, good will toward men
We as Christians enjoy peace in several ways
1. Peace With God
Point: This peace was made possible only through Jesus the Christ.
Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Because of our salvation we are no more enemies of God
2. Peace From God
Comment: Unless you have peace with God, there is no peace from God
Isaiah 57:20-21 The wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose water cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace saith my God to the wicked
It is this peace from God that is given unto us through the Spirit of God
See: John 14:27 Jesus said My peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth…
Mention: Eph. 2:14 Christ is our peace
Comment: This peace from God is connected to the righteousness from God
Point: Unless I have peace from God, I never like to make decisions.
Mention: Psalms 85:10 Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
See: Isaiah 48:17-18 When we are in right standing with God we experience the peace of God.
3. Peace On Earth (Peace of God)
Comment: We all know that there will never be worldly peace until the Prince of peace comes to this earth, but there is a peace of God that gives us the ability to live in peace.
Defining Peace:
• The absence of conflict
This is the worldly idea of peace and will only be established at Christ’s return.
• Peace is a inter trust in God, despite all outward circumstances
See: Phil. 4:4-7 The peace of God passes all understanding
Point: Even when we do not understand the circumstances there is a peace of God that passes all understanding.
Mr. Horatio Spafford "When peace like a river attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea-billows roll, Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to know; "It is well, it is well with my soul."
Point: despite what we face in this life we can trust God and relay on the peace He gives through His Spirit. It is only He that gives peace in the midst of conflicts.
See: John 16:33
