Philippians 4:1-9
FOCUS – On what I want, not what I don’t want
Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are
honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise,
think on these things.”
True – Unchangeable, Eternal, Absolute truth. In speech
Honest – Honorable, venerable, reputable In action
Just – Just and Righteous In regard to others
Pure – Chaste or Holy In regard to yourself
Lovely – Amiable for ourselves and others
Good Report - Useful and profitable
Virtue - for the good of mankind and opposed to a vice
Praise - worthy of praise or commendation
FOCUS – on one thing at a time.
Proverbs 17:24, “Wisdom is before him that hath understanding;
but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.”
FOCUS – on one victory at a time.
Matthew 6:11, “Give us this day our daily bread.”
Matthew 6:34, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take
thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil
thereof.”
FOCUS – on God’s power not will power.
Jeremiah 12:23, “
Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
FOCUS – on doing good not feeling good.
Galatians 5:16, “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of
the flesh.”
FOCUS – on people who help me not hinder me.
Proverbs 27:17, “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his
friend.”
FOCUS – on progress not perfection.
Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work
in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
