Scripture:
Psalms:91:1: He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Psalms:91:2: I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Psalms:91:3: Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
Psalms:91:4: He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Psalms:91:5: Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Psalms:91:6: Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
Psalms:91:7: A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Psalms:91:8: Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Psalms:91:9: Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
Psalms:91:10: There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
Psalms:91:11: For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
Psalms:91:12: They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Psalms:91:13: Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
Psalms:91:14: Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
Psalms:91:15: He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
Psalms:91:16: With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
Introduction:
In These days and Times We often see all The Terrorism and sin In the world and wonder where is a safe place for us to go to escape all this evil. I mean, There has to be a place without all the suffering and pain right? Today we are going to learn of the only safe place.
Sermon:
In seminary my Pastor told me once to learn Psalms 91. and when I get revelation tell him what God showed me.
The Word Revelation means to Reveal. Only Jesus can reveal the word to us. I fasted and prayed for revelation. I studied and studied this psalm. Finely Jesus broke this psalm down to me verse by verse, Amen? A secret place to Dwell. In Hebrew Secret is pronounced saw-thar'
a primitive root; to hide (by covering), literally or figuratively:--be absent, keep close, conceal, hide (self), (keep) secret, X surely.
Knowing that God is the same Yesterday, today, and forever there has to be a some safe place for us believers to dwell. Certainly there are some modern day stories of God’s miracles in deliverance of his people. Take this true story for example:
Psalms:91:7: A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
John Paton was a missionary in the New Hebrides Islands. One night hostile natives surrounded the mission station, intent on burning out the Patons and killing them. Paton and his wife prayed during that terror-filled night that God would deliver them. When daylight came they were amazed to see their attackers leave. A year later, the chief of the tribe was converted to Christ. Remembering what had happened, Paton asked the chief what had kept him from burning down the house and killing them. The chief replied in surprise, "Who were all those men with you there?" Paton knew no men were present--but the chief said he was afraid to attack because he had seen hundreds of big men in shining garments with drawn swords circling the mission station.
If we are to see miracles and sign like this, we must be in that Secret Place in God, but if we are to get into that place and remain there, we must learn some things about that Place.
What is this place called the Secret Place in God?
How can I dwell in this Secret Place?
What can keep me from or cause me to leave this place in God?
What kind of relationship with God does the Secret Place offer?
1)What is this place called the Secret Place?
There is a place in God where a child of God can dwell that most of Christianity doesn’t know even exists or is unwilling to pay the price to dwell there.
Just as the High Priest of the Old Testament could enter into the Holy of Holies of the Tabernacle and be covered by the shekinah glory of God’s presence upon the Mercy Seat, so can we enter into a place where we are so covered by the glory of God that the world and all its evil cannot reach us to tempt us or cause us to sin.
The Secret Place of God is not made with human hands. No power of man, no ability of our own hands can create such a place as this. Zechariah 4:6, "… Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts." The Secret Place where we are to dwell is built only by the Spirit of God and is complete control of the LORD OF HOSTS.
The Secret Place is a place of ultimate trust and faith in God where hope is alive and well. It is a place where doubts cannot dwell, where fear is not present and where confidence in the power of God to deliver is ever present. It is a place where faith is so strong that nothing the Devil casts at us will have power over us.
The Secret Place is a place in God where we know that God has everything under control for we are convinced of it in our heart and there is no worry, no concern and no fretting over our circumstances or troubles. We have that calm assurance that all is well.
Our heart knows, our spirit is strong and our mind is made up and the words of Romans 8:28, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose”, are not just words but a fact and are irrevocable.
how can I dwell in this secret place?
The High Priest of Israel had to go through a personal cleansing process for himself and then for the nation of Israel before entering into the Holy of Holies. We must be pure and without blemish. Jesus is the only way . When we repent of our sins he forgives us when we ask and washes us white as snow. Repentance is not an option, its a command.
What can keep me from or cause me to leave this place in God?
Sin... God hates Sin and if we are in our sins He can not look upon us. Wse can not get close to God to dwell in his shadow if we are living in sin. This is why repentance is required.
We are commanded to live Holy lives. Does this mean you must be perfect? no. Living in sin and Slipping every now and then are two different things. 1Pe:1:15: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
1Pe:1:16: Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
Living a Holy Life is important if you want to dwell in the secret place and receive the protection there.
4) What kind of relationship with God does the Secret Place offer?
Intimacy. Living in His presence . If we are to prosper in all things like Job we have to live like Job, amen?
We all have witnessed Terrorist attacks in Paris and in USA..School shootings, people killing others, false flags, and people wonder where is a SAFE place to stay? Those in Christ never worry about that because they put their TRUST in Christ. Psalms:91:9: Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation
Those who DO not know Christ have to worry about terror attacks or OTHER dangers in their country. There is NO protection for such people because they are covered by His Blood. But what about children who are covered by His Blood. The answer is in Psalms:91:5-6: Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
Let us talk about Pestilence:
Notice what Jesus said in Luke 21:10,11. "Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: And great earthquakes shall be in diverse places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights great signs shall there be from heaven."
Pestilence, what is it? According to the Strong's Concordance of the Bible, the word pestilence comes from the Greek word "loymos". It means a plague (literally the disease, or figuratively a pest). It can be any epidemic outbreak of a deadly and highly infectious disease. It can be regarded as harmful or serious (sometimes fatal)
In today’s world, you can see Pestilences! Plagues! Diseases! All that without a cure! They are beyond man's ability to respond with a remedy!
What are these Deadly Pestilence?
There are so many plagues like Influenza, AIDS, Yellow Fever, Ebola, Cholera, Dengue Fever, Hepatitis B, Swine Flu, Anthrax, Hemorrhagic Fever ....e.t.c, .... e.t.c.... But God has a promise For His Children.
ONLY for His Children who LOVE God with all of their heart, soul, mind, and strength. His promise is that "NO harm will come to you; NO plague will come near your tent. NO disaster will strike you, NO violence will come near your home.
Nothing can touch God's Children because Jesus is our 'PROTECTOR' and He is our 'DEFENDER'. Every plague has to flee in God's presence. Amen!
Jesus said, "And upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity (Luke 21:25)." He is basically saying that nations would be in distress because they would have no solutions. Today we are facing a whole host of diseases that science has no cure for. Don't we see that today?
What is Snare of the Fowler?
A snare is a particular type of trap. The person who creates and sets it is the fowler.
Or the other type of Fowler Is the Devil Himself! His Satanic Traps!
Satan is absolutely determined to overthrow every believer who walks in holiness and complete devotion to Jesus Christ. Indeed, the devil knows where you live and work - every path you take, every footstep. And he follows your entire goings and your comings.
Please understand - Satan is not omnipresent. He cannot be everywhere at once. Nor does he know all things; otherwise he would be God. But he does have at his command multitudes of demonic beings, principalities and powers of darkness. And these evil workers trail you. They go about like fowlers, laying traps to ensnare you - hidden, crafty, diabolical traps!
The psalmist writes: "Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings. The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside..." (Psalm 140:4-5).
Non Believers who not know Christ are in trouble. And for those who have been saved and backslidden can also end in destruction.
Jesus Promise for those who love Him:
It says in Psalms:91:14-16: Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
How do we know we love Jesus?
Simple... john 14:15 Jesus says if you Love me keep my commandments..
John 14:23: Jesus answered and said unto him,If a man love me he will keep my words,and my father will love him,and we will come unto him and make our abode with him
Conclusion:
Since we know now where our safe place is in Jesus we should strive to stay there. We should keep our eyes on him at all times. We need to watch Jesus and not the rapidly perishing world around us. We need to remember what happened when Lots wife looked upon the world rather than keep her eyes looking straight. Jesus is the way, truth, and the life. Without him we are just another brick in the wall of the world that blocks God from our lives. The Enemy wants us to stay asleep and numb to the evil in the World today. Oh what great promises to those who will enter into that Secret Place! Are you in that Secret Place today? Are you hanging around the edges of Christianity but not really making a total commitment to Christ? Why not get closer to God and get in that Secret Place?
I don’t know about you but I want to live as close to God as I can. I want to dwell in that Secret Place under the shadow of the Almighty.
The most important thing you could do is to trust Jesus Christ as your only hope of reaching heaven.
The Bible states in Acts 16:31, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." The second most important thing you could do is to tell someone else how they can have eternal life.
