And He said, No [neither], but as Prince of the Lord’s host have I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, What says my Lord to His servant?
Joshua 5:14 (King James Version)
And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?
A. The LORD JESUS CHRIST will introduce Himself to us.
"And He said, No [neither], but as Prince of the Lord’s host have I now come."
Usually this is done in EGR (Encounter GOD Retreat), where we can encounter and meet GOD in a supernatural way, He reveals Himself to us in unique and distinct way respecting our personality, characters and upbringing. The LORD JESUS CHRIST is the Super Gentleman that does this very subtle, in love so that we will not fear Him.
In our example here, because Joshua is a warrior, the LORD JESUS CHRIST introduces Him as the captain so Joshua can relate to Him.
ILLUSTRATION:
In my experience, the LORD JESUS CHRIST introduces Himself in a supernatural way causing me to hear His voice like any other voice, with mighty signs, wonders and miracles because when I was still an unbeliever, I'm involved in witch craft and occultism. That's how JESUS our LORD, MASTER and SAVIOR introduces Himself to us.
Hebrews 2:10 (Amplified Bible)
For it was an act worthy [of God] and fitting [to the divine nature] that He, for Whose sake and by Whom all things have their existence, in bringing many sons into glory, should make the Pioneer of their salvation perfect [should bring to maturity the human experience necessary to be perfectly equipped for His office as High Priest] through suffering.
Some notable introductions of the LORD JESUS CHRIST to different believers:
1. As a Rabbie to Nicodemus - because Nicodemus is a rabbi.
John 3:1-3 (Amplified Bible)
NOW THERE was a certain man among the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler (a leader, an authority) among the Jews,
Who came to Jesus at night and said to Him, Rabbi, we know and are certain that You have come from God [as] a Teacher; for no one can do these signs (these wonderworks, these miracles—and produce the proofs) that You do unless God is with him.
Jesus answered him, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that unless a person is born again (anew, from above), he cannot ever see (know, be acquainted with, and experience) the kingdom of God.
2. As Almighty GOD to Abraham - because Abraham is soon to become father of many nations
Genesis 17:1-5 (Amplified Bible)
WHEN ABRAM was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, I am the Almighty God; walk and live habitually before Me and be perfect (blameless, wholehearted, complete).
And I will make My covenant (solemn pledge) between Me and you and will multiply you exceedingly.
Then Abram fell on his face, and God said to him,
As for Me, behold, My covenant (solemn pledge) is with you, and you shall be the father of many nations.
Nor shall your name any longer be Abram [high, exalted father]; but your name shall be Abraham [father of a multitude], for I have made you the father of many nations.
3. As GOD of Grace to Noah - because Noah means "rest" that's why we rest in His Grace.
Genesis 6:8-10 (Amplified Bible)
But Noah found grace (favor) in the eyes of the Lord.
This is the history of the generations of Noah. Noah was a just and righteous man, blameless in his [evil] generation; Noah walked [in habitual fellowship] with God.
And Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
4. As burning bush to Moses - because Moses was drawn from water, and Moses needs to see the fire.
Exodus 3:4-6 (Amplified Bible)
And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the midst of the bush and said, Moses, Moses! And he said, Here am I.
God said, Do not come near; put your shoes off your feet, for the place on which you stand is holy ground.
Also He said, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
5. As Spirit of the LORD to David - because King David is a spiritual man and walks in Grace under the Law.
1 Samuel 16:13 (Amplified Bible)
Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed David in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward. And Samuel arose and went to Ramah.
6. As LORD to Samuel - because Samuel is a spiritual leader and priests of Israel
1 Samuel 3:10 (Amplified Bible)
And the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, Samuel! Samuel! Then Samuel answered, Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.
7. As Revealer of Secrets, as GOD in Heaven to Daniel - because Daniel can interpret dreams and he is to be GOD above Pharaoh and Egypt
Daniel 2:28 (Amplified Bible)
But there is a God in heaven Who reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what it is that shall be in the latter days (at the end of days). Your dream and the visions in your head upon your bed are these:
B. Our correct response is:
1. Realization that we're worthless
2. Worship
3. Ask for His commands
"And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, What says my Lord to His servant?"
1. Realization that we're worthless : We realize that we're worthless just like Joshua fell on his face to the earth. Joshua realized that he came from the dust of the earth and while he do it, he worships the LORD.
2. Worship - to adore; to pay divine honors to; to reverence with supreme respect and veneration. To respect; to honor; to treat with civil reverence. To honor with extravagant love and extreme submission; as a lover.
a. Three noticeable elements of worship:
(1) Fear
Psalms 22:23 (Amplified Bible)
You who fear (revere and worship) the Lord, praise Him! All you offspring of Jacob, glorify Him. Fear (revere and worship) Him, all you offspring of Israel.
Matthew 10:28 (Amplified Bible)
And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; but rather be afraid of Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell (Gehenna).
(2) Trust or hope
Psalms 31:19 (Amplified Bible)
Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear, revere, and worship You, goodness which You have wrought for those who trust and take refuge in You before the sons of men!
Jeremiah 17:7 (Amplified Bible)
[Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is.
(3) Believe
John 4:21 (Amplified Bible)
Jesus said to her, Woman, believe Me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither [merely] in this mountain nor [merely] in Jerusalem.
John 4:24 (Amplified Bible)
God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (reality).
Jeremiah 17:7 (Amplified Bible)
[Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is.
All three of these if you will ever notice are required by mere men to be given to them.
ILLUSTRATION: I'm working in a call center that believes in impressing others by believing in themselves. How scary?
I saw basketball fans will always hear that they need to believe in the player, their co-players, coach, audience, teams, team owners but they forgot the One that deserves all beliefs, that is the LORD JESUS CHRIST. They will even say believe on the ball. Ha ha ha
3. Ask for His commands - a partnership, or we're in a relation with the LORD GOD, His part is to protect and bless us. And what is our part? That is what we ask of Him. We know these by reading His WORDS, meditation of His WORDS.
Psalms 3:8 (Amplified Bible)
Salvation belongs to the Lord; May Your blessing be upon Your people. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!
Exodus 34:14 (Amplified Bible)
For you shall worship no other god; for the Lord, Whose name is Jealous, is a jealous (impassioned) God,
We do this in a daily basis, we ask what part of His commands we can believe, trust or hope and fear by doing it in our lives.
IX. CONCLUSION:
Praise, worship, glorify, adore, bless, honor, acknowledge and thank You very much LORD JESUS for You introduced Yourself to me in a mighty supernatural Way and You're awesome in appearance because You are GOD.
