Matthew 13:1 - 9 & 18 - 23 The SEED in the parable is the WORD OF GOD, Heb 4:12. For the WORD OF GOD is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, The SOWER is the Saviour 37 He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; The SOIL is the Human Heart James 1:21. and receive with meekness the ENGRAFTED WORD, which is able to save your souls. I. THE FAITHFULNESS OF THE SOWER. v.3 Behold, a sower went forth to sow; (A). HE SOWED PLENTIFULLY. 2 Cor 9:6. But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. (B). HE SOWED PASSIONATELY. Ps 126:5-6. They that sow in TEARS shall reap in JOY. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. C). HE SOWED PATIENTLY. Gal 6:9. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not II. THE FRUITFULNESS OF THE SEED. 2 And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, (A). IT IS PRECIOUS SEED. Psalms 126:6. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. This Precious Book Tells Of A Precious Blood: "1 Peter 1:18-19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: It Tells Us Of A Precious Faith: 2 Peter 1:1. Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: It Tells Us Of A Precious City: Rev 21:10-11. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; (B). IT IS POWERFUL SEED. Rom 1:16. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; (C) . IT IS PERPETUAL SEED. God’s Word will never END: "heaven and earth shall pass away but my word shall never pass away"............ III. THE FICKLENESS OF THE SOIL (A). THE CARELESS HEART. 4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: 19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. (B). THE CASUAL HEART. 5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: 6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; 21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. the WORK PLACE, on the JOB, at SCHOOL, IN THE OFFICE, AFFLICTIONS, PERSECUTIONS for the WORDS SAKE come…"In time of temptation falls away". (C). THE CARNAL HEART. 7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: 22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. 1. The DECEITFULNESS of RICHES, the LUST of other things. (D). THE CAREFUL HEART. 8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. 23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. IV. THE FOCUS OF THE SERMON 9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
