Matthew 1:18 - 25 THEY SHALL CALL HIM EMMANUEL
23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
I- THE MIRACLE OF THE NAME: Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son
A-The Prophecy Of His Birth:
In Isaiah 7:14, He is given the name of God (Immanuel or God with us) "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." The virgin birth must either be accepted or rejected. B-The Purity Of His Birth: Behold, a virgin shall be with child 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. C- The Priority Of His Birth: EMMANUEL God with us The little boy said, "I want somebody with skin on." II- THE MAJESTY OF THE NAME: Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. I. JESUS WAS GOD WITH US IN PERSON! 1. He Was (And Is) The Preexistent One! John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. 2. He Was (And Is) God Incarnate! John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 3. He Was (And Is) The Fullness Of The Godhead Bodily! Colossians 1:19–“For it pleased the Father that in Him should all fulness dwell.”Colossians 2:9–“For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” II. JESUS WAS GOD WITH US IN POWER! A. His Works - He Did (And Does) Things Only God Can Do! B. His Wisdom - He Had (And Has) Knowledge That Only God Can Have! Thou God seest Me C. His Worth He Had (And Has) The Power Over Life. John 6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. III. JESUS WAS GOD WITH US IN PRACTICE! A. His Revelation - He Was (And Is) The Master Teacher! B. His Right - He Exercised (And Exercises) The Authority Of God. 1. He Cast Out Demons. Matt 8:29–And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time 2. He Forgave Sins. (Matthew 9–the man sick of the palsy.) C. His Rule - He Rules Today In Divine Authority. Hebrews 1:3–“. . .when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” IV. JESUS WAS GOD WITH US IN PASSION! 1 John 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
V. JESUS WAS GOD WITH US IN PRESENCE! and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Matthew 12:27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. John 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? III - THE MYSTERY OF THE NAME: and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
I Timothy 3:16-And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
A-He Is God Because Of His Attributes:
Psalms 103:1-2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
Matthew 9:2 And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.
B-He Is God Because Of His Admission: John 10:31 I and my Father are one.
C-He Is God Because Of His Adoration:
Luke 4:8(And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.)
IV- THE MEANING OF THE NAME : which being interpreted is, God with us.
A-It Means He Is For Us:
Isaiah 53:12 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12: Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
His greatest work is in the realm of salvation. He is saving His people from sin. He saves them from the penalty of sin by washing them in His own blood. He saves them from the power of sin by putting the Holy Spirit in their hearts. He saves them from the presence of sin by taking them home to Heaven.
B-It Means He Is Upon Us: Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
C-It Means He is In Us: Colossians 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
D-It Means He Is With Us: Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Fear Of Flying "but He also said, 'LOW, I will be with you... ' not HIGH!"
